Disappointing Experience Despite a Few Highlights

I came in to try the wood-fired pizzas and ended up ordering more than planned. I started with the Margherita pizza, expecting a classic combo of tomato sauce, fresh mozzarella, and basil. Being from Long Island, I found it strange that they used raw tomato slices on top as if I ordered a pizza with tomato as a topping. While the crust was nicely done, the rest of the pizza was bland and didn’t suit my taste.

On the bright side, the boneless buffalo wings were a hit—perfectly spicy and paired really well with the bleu cheese sauce. The shrimp tempura was also great: light, crispy, and flavorful. I had a beer that tasted like a mix of apple cider and beer (can’t recall the name), but it complemented the wings nicely.

One major issue was the service around my cheeseburger order. I asked for cheddar cheese, expecting the usual yellow cheddar, but received white cheddar instead. When I asked about it, another server stepped in with a really unprofessional attitude, insisting over and over that it “tastes the same” rather than just answering a simple yes or no to whether they had yellow cheddar. My original server eventually came back and echoed the same dismissive tone after hearing the story from the other girl. I felt like just sending the burger back and paying for it out of frustration.

I ended up keeping it, gave half to my spouse, took one bite, and regretted not giving her the whole thing. The burger was underseasoned and just not enjoyable. I ended up tossing what was left.

This place!! This place was awesome! There were six of us stopping for lunch--on our way between touristy stuff, and finding places closed. It was Columbus Day weekend, and other places that were open were jamming. Fortunately, Oakley's was the first place we found! Oakley's was definitely jamming!! We ended up at the bar which we thought might be a bad experience--six of us stretched out next to each other instead of around a table. Wrong!! Best experience ever. Especially because of the staff--Joy, and a younger girl with curly hair who was so much fun. But Joy! What afreakin' treasure! Her face was always covered with a smile despite running her legs off with bar orders and taking care of food orders at the bar (us and a few others). She is truly a gem! Take very good care of her. She works hard and seems happy to be there! The food! Absolutely amazing. I have never had crispier, juicier chicken tenders. The HOMEMADE marinara sauce was so delicious I wanted to dip everything in it! The garlic knots--warm and savory! And so many! The fried pickles the same--perfection, and SO MANY. No scrimping on order size with them! Several of us ordered calzones, which were definitely two meals in one. The day before we'd had an absolutely horrible experience at Chappies in Roxbury and were feeling skeptical because of that. Oakley's turned our world around. seemingly i am in a unique club by posting a less-than-stellar review of this establishment. essentially, I base reviews on the amount of money spent for services/food rendered.

I want to meet the person who wrote "Two meals, three drinks for $60 is amazing." - I find that sentence hard to understand.. the English makes sense, but the sentiment is ludicrous. I wish I had read it prior to popping in for a bite - as I would have stayed away.. though, I would have always wondered.. as I had in the past when I would drive by and see cars upon cars parked along the road. i digress; i entered. (and was accosted by fruit flies for the duration of my stay)

nine dollar beers are a travesty in every sense of the word.. concerts and professional sports charge far too much for a cold one and that should be viewed as criminal. i didn't expect to pay near double digit dollars for a beer along route twenty-eight on a random thursday afternoon - but I did. if I knew that a pint of pilsner would set me back $9.50 I would have drank water.

perhaps being open only Th, Fr, Sa & Su limits the ability to generate money. i'm not sure. If I'm in that area again for some reason, I might order take-out because the pizza was great but the prohibitive prices lead me to know that I...
