Today I started with a simple orange juice and an Apple cider Mimosa. I followed this order with a Milk and "The big pig" which consists if two pancakes, two strips of bacon, two sausages, two eggs, a slice of ham and one piece of toast.
The highlight of this uneventful meal was the apple cider Mimosa. It was perfectly crisp and balanced. However the main course was by far unpalatable.
The plating was about as inviting as the tiny unflavored sausage links. Definitely over cooked and no flavor or seasoning. It reminded me of generic brand links you'd give to your pet. The generally tasty hickory thick bacon was extremely hard and impossible to chew. Both eggs were ordered over easy. However, they came out over medium with barely any yolk. The toast must have been over a day or two old as it tasted stale but lightly toasted. The Pancakes were not too unpleasant but they tasted as if poured from a boxed mixed. The ham most likely store purchased and had a mild scent and flavor but was extremely hard to cut through and chewed like rubber. I'm hoping the chef was just having a bad day. The saving grace of this experience was with no doubt the very inviting atmosphere having a lush and floral farm. The moment you drive in your met with the apple orchard and a bit of the country life style. The animals there were friendly and one could easily get lost while looking at all the scenery. Did I mention it has a beautiful shop? You can purchase all sorts of hand crafted goods and I even spotted the most amazing scented candles. Over all I give this place a 4 out of 10. Although it's meals and menu are subpar I have no doubt the rest will...
Read moreThe dining areas are well decorated and very clean. Our waitress was a helpful and cheerful lass. But the food, oh my gosh, the food was absolutely top-notch. Real maple syrup, honey and butter on the table. I kept it simple, two eggs over easy, hash browns and an apple pancake. My wife had a pepper lovers' omelet. Eggs are free range and gathered every morning. All of our food was perfectly cooked and delicious. Ever get an omelet at a restaurant and have it flat and dense? Not here, my wife's omelet was fluffy. They should warn people about the apple pancakes. They are stellar; but they are as big as your head. Try as I might I couldn't quite finish mine. I also have to mention the raisin toast, probably the best I have ever eaten. To me this is as good as it gets. Fresh and well prepared ingredients always get my appreciation. This is the best place to get a superior breakfast in the entire area. We also left with a dozen free range eggs. The place is a bit pricey; but you get what you pay for. I cannot wait to get here again. If you appreciate excellent food, you can't miss this place. After going here a couple of times, I've learned that you can order an apple pancake in a smaller size. Finally went and visited the goats. Spent a couple of quarters buying food for them. The goats were so gentle taking the pellets out of your...
Read moreBreakfast on the farm...yummm! Down home country farm cooking. Fantastic food, with service to match. This is a place you will want to come back to, again and again. Manitowoc County’s best kept secret, truly. (Just over the county line next to Sheboygan County; 12 miles from Sheboygan itself. Drive straight north on Dairyland Drive to County Rd. MM and then West about a mile just over I-43 overpass.). They barely advertise and place still fills up with hungry people. (Many times when we’ve visited, people are lined up to get in this place. It is definitely worth the extra time and gasoline to get here.) Recommendation: Especially during the warmer weather times of the year, arrive early in the AM so you don’t have to wait in line to get a place to sit. Weekends are especially busy. Terrific place to eat and to bring anyone who loves animals as they have alpacas, goats, chickens, rabbits, cats, peacocks, and other animals/birds to watch, feed, &/or interact with. They also have a country store attached to the cafe where one can buy fresh bread, pies, honey, eggs, apple cider, apples (in season, of course), as well as country crafts, so make sure you come with a big appetite and extra time to fully experience this place without having to rush...
