While this place has the luxury of being in a gorgeous environment, that shouldn't mean they can take advantage of customers. For our experience, I would have given this place negative stars but the restaurant is just too beautifully set, so perfectly laid out with chairs on the grounds and horseshoes and bacchi ball. Waiting hours to be served, being treated as we were & served as poorly as we were is unacceptable anywhere however ESPECIALLY after waiting an hr to be seated. That should have told us to leave, since we were told it was "about a 20 minute wait" but this place is way out there. It is not next to another dinner option, and we were in unfamiliar territory. Being dinner time, we decided to tolerate the " I'm hungry courus" from the kids and finally using the lawn games to distract them we were seated. I was told "No!" when asked if there were kids menus. We were asked if we wanted drinks and said no but were thirsty, could we have a pitcher of water instead of just glasses. Seeing a few young teens around I thought ok, maybe they only have one menu. Yet, an hr after we ordered a family walked in , talked with a few people at other tables then sat with their about 11 yr old holding a papes menu. Not nice to take advantage of out of towners!! Oh, let me get back to the water because this is priceless!!After our order was taken in about 20 minutes we had to call the waitress over to ask for water again. I bet drinks they could have charged us for would have come out though. Other tables had bread bowls. She just brings the pitcher. So we ask for bread and the waitress never came back to check on us, never brought the bread but brought out drinks multiple times to other tables. The water was bubbly. So the adults tasted it, some dish water cross between selser and Sprite. That's it! So I walk the pitcher over to another waitress and ask her why our WATER was fizzling. Her response- "Sometimes soda gets into the water, happens all the time". If I were the owner I would have been embarrassed about all this but I guess this place just doesn't care because I met Kathy & all she had to say was," I'll check with the kitchen." I should have never asked because she actually came back, which was the first time anyone did, and said we were the next ones to be served. How long could next be? 5 min? 10? Just as we were about to walk out 25 min later we were served and while the food was fine adults were aggravated, all were starving, the sun set it was pitch black and cold and we all wished we had just left. Better food at better prices with MUCH better service with just as beautiful a view in many other places we have been all along the coast from Maine to Fla so this would not be anywhere near on our list...
Read moreThe Boat House Restaurant in New Baltimore is beautifully situated on the Hudson River. At first glance driving in your not sure exactly where the restaurant is because of the parking among the dry-docked boats of a neighboring marina. Eventually the area opens and the you’ll find a very attractive restaurant. Going inside we were greeted by a very pleasant hostess. We were asked if we had reservations which we did not. Because of the gorgeous day our options were an hour wait for outside seating or to sit inside. We opted to sit inside near a window. Still a spectacular view. I do have to say the outside seating was busy but not completely full. It pretty much stayed that way during our hour and a half stay so I am not sure why we could not have been seated outside. Our waitress eventually came for our drink order. My wife asked if there were any drink specials and the waitress ran to another table grabbing the specials board. My wife ordered a frozen drink and I ordered a Blue Moon beer because of the glass etching promotion. When the drinks arrived my wife’s, drink was on the rocks instead of frozen. The waitress informed us the frozen drink machine was broken. The correct thing to do was to inform her of the situation and let her make the decision about her drink. As far as the promotion they ran out of glasses to etch. Irritating since there were people walking around with multiple glasses. Obviously not the fault of the restaurant. The appetizers came out after longer normal wait. A crab cake and a cheese quesadilla. The quesadilla was fine. The crab cake was small with too much remoulade sauce. At last dinner was served. My wife ordered the NY Strip. Nice looking steak but not prepared medium as ordered. There was no pink in the middle to be found. It was not dry as though over cooked but appeared to be sitting waiting to be served. It came with rice pilaf and green beans. the rice was over cooked also, on the verge of mushy. The green beans were spot on. I ordered a bacon shrimp dish which was fine and came with the same sides. I think my overall impression was that the establishment was overwhelmed with how busy it was that day even though there was always seating available inside or out. Other patrons were heard saying that it was unusually busy even for a Saturday. I would definitely come again, just...
Read moreMy better half and I wanted to get out of the house and eat dinner on the water. A quick google search and we found ourselves here at the Boathouse Grill. We reserved a table on the deck outside. Walking in the atmosphere was beautiful. We were sat quickly and our waitress Alisha was quick and friendly bringing water right over to us. We ordered fairly quickly and ordered a bottle of Moscato and appetizers. The spinach and artichoke dip was not horrible. I enjoy a little more of a thicker consistency but to each their own. It was more of a thick soup with pita chips with broiled parm on top. Street corn was delicious. We ordered the Prime rib special Medium rare and Chicken Piccata for entree. We enjoyed our view while waiting an appropriate amount of time for our entrees to arrive. When dinner was served we knew right away the prime rib was not going to be all that great. It was well done and the ajuú was watery. The mashed potatoes were runny and sticky. Like a pudding consistency. It was supposed to come with mixed veggies… green beans it is. No flavor at all! Chicken piccata was good and cooked well. Again green beans were very plain. The entertainment was a 3 piece “band”. Drums guitar and xylophone. Weird for a Friday night. For a $125 check plus adding a tip we were a little disappointed. If we were to rerun it would be for some mixed drinks, beer and the pizza that looked delicious on the table behind us. Maybe a late afternoon lunch. Kiddos to the server for offering to get a new piece of prime rib but we are not really the type to send things back. Alisha was a...
