Charlie's Place — Restaurant in Town of New Hartford

I’m utterly disgusted. My brother and I have been going to Charlie’s place for quite some time. The owner and staff always compliment us on our good manners and treatment of the staff. Today, we decided to take my grandmother for breakfast. She arrived a few minutes before us. The hostess lady (whom I’ve never seen here before) refused to seat her because we weren’t there yet, which is fine, I understand a lot of restaurants have this policy, just surprised to see it from a place that isn’t considered fine dining in any way. We sat and ordered, the food was fine, before we could even take one bite of our meal they put the check on the table which is totally rude and unacceptable. The hostess kept whispering to other customers “They were late, just waiting for them to leave now so we can seat another party of three” and kept laughing. We were humiliated. Then she kept circling around the table while we were still enjoying our coffee and staring at us as, like she wanted us to leave. The woman then kept getting closer, and continued to whisper about us to other staff members and customers. We left. I’m sad because I loved Charlies place. The usual lady who is there is always a joy, (I think she’s the owner) My brother and I, WILL NOT be returning. I usually don’t play this card, but I will this time. I’m training in the culinary arts and hospitality industry, It would never be acceptable to treat customers like this, no matter the setting, fine dining or not. 100 years of breakfasts between my husband and I and I have to say this was the worst we’ve ever had. Both of us felt this way. Very long wait for food. Service was friendly though. When we placed our order we added a pancake and requested if it was done before the other food we would gladly have it. All food came out together and the pancake was so cold it didn’t melt the mostly melted butter. Hash browns tasted like old fish fry grease. Neither of us could eat them. I ordered hash Benedict and the sauce was brown (burned maybe???) and very little of it. Could have forgiven the long wait for food (they weren’t busy) if the food was good. Maybe, judging by the other reviews, this was a really bad off day….but it was...

My mom and I ordered two omelets. They were both completely wrong and didn’t even have the right filling or toppings. The toast was rock hard. The cook did offer to cook new omelets but by the time we got the waitress back it wasn’t worth our time. We also had to ask for coffee refills three times as they never checked on us. When we got our bill they didn’t give us any sort of discount for the two wrong meals and the wait. Totally disappointed. The portions sizes are also significantly smaller than they ever used to be. This will be our last time at this diner even though we’ve been loyal customers...
