I drove one hour last night for Michelin star meal number 1013 at La Bastide by Andrea Calstier in North Salem NY. This 6 table gem served me 20 different foods if you count breads and cheeses. This is one of the opening snacks, a tiny bouillabaisse quintessance. Can’t wait to make the drive again. #michelin #eating #bouillabaisse #labastide #highspeeddining

Fantastique! Wow, what a culinary experience. La Bastide brings a new level of fine dining to Westchester County. We felt like we had stopped at a Michelin restaurant outside of Paris. The canapés gave a hint of what was to come, and the tasting menu surpassed all our expectations. The sea bass was the star of our show, but the homemade bread and the beautiful cheese plate (with imported French cheese alongside options from a local cheese monger) also deserve a shoutout. The plating of each dish was unique and beautiful (the photos don’t do it justice). The dining room, on the lower floor, was elegant and sophisticated, with the modern wine cellar, in center view, boasting an extensive collection. The service was personal without being intrusive. We enjoyed watching the chef, Andrea Calstier, and his team in the open kitchen. We are looking forward to going back. Bravo, Andrea, Elena, and team La Bastide!

We've been loyal followers of Chef Andrea ever since his days at Papilles in NYC. When he and his wife, Elena, shared the news of their closing to embark on the journey of opening two new restaurants in North Salem, we were truly saddened. However, since the grand openings of La Bastide and Cenadou, we've been happily making the 1.5-hour drive to indulge in the exceptional cuisine at La Bastide. (Yes, it's worth the trip!) The dining experience whisks you away to the French countryside, infused with a contemporary flair. Each dish is a masterpiece, highlighting the freshest seasonal ingredients expertly paired with impeccably prepared proteins. And the wine cellar has bottles that would be the envy of any restaurant in the US or in France. It's just a matter of time before a restaurant critic discovers this hidden gem... whether it's the NY Times or the Michelin Guide, it's only a matter of time. Go now!

Four of us had dinner at la Bastide Saturday April 15. We had the tasting menu. We have eaten at many 2 and 3 Michelin starred restaurants and this was one of the very best meals we ever had, maybe the best.

The restaurant is downstairs with a nice view of the surrounding area on one side, probably making the window side tables more attractive. One of the other sides provides a view of the kitchen. Music was a touch loud for me. We had previously had a very good dinner at the bistro which occupies the floor above the restaurant gastronomique.

Surprisingly some of the staff seemed reluctant to speak French with me.

Most courses offered diversity / combination of flavors that were simply brilliant. Some of the extraordinary courses: black truffle shavings on toasted brioche bread, two little shrimps in delicate sauce, the cod, the venison and above all the amazing chocolate dessert. Among the petit fours was a blood orange tartelette that, like the black truffle amuse-bouche.

The only thing that was not on par was the cheese tray (an optional addition to the tasting menu). La Bastide buys the cheese from Murray’s which is no longer what it was since the company was acquired by Safeway. La Bastide should either eliminate the cheese couse or source the cheese from an artisanal cheese shop (like Darien cheese in Darien).

We suspect that the only thing that may hold Michelin from awarding more stars to Calstier is that there are two seatings (5 and 8). It is understandable with only six tables, but I know it has been a known hang up for Michelin.

All in all a memorable evening. We look forward to returning and will follow closely the next releases of the Michelin red...

What an incredible meal! I was fortunate enough to snag an early reservation and La Bastide lived up to what we’d been dreaming about for months as we eagerly awaited for the restaurant to open. The service, food, and ambiance were spectacular. This is a must-visit restaurant – get a reservation ASAP before they’re booked out months in advance!

Service: From the moment we arrived, the service was impeccable. The bartender is exceptional and we were seated at a beautiful table and offered a welcome cocktail or champagne (we got the Nougat cocktail). Each course was explained in detail and they catered to dietary restrictions flawlessly. Expect the perfect wine recommendation from either of the sommeliers.

Food: Easily the best meal I have had, surpassing Michelin star and James Beard winners. We started with three beautifully plated canapes which were each delicious and unique. While each dish was incredible, I loved the flavors of the lobster. I would never have thought to combine orange blossom and lobster but I felt like I was on a culinary adventure and nearly asked for a to-go container of the sauce. Don’t forget to try the French and local cheeses and each get different desserts so you can try it all!

Atmosphere: The restaurant is perfectly decorated with tasteful art, a stunning wine cellar, and beautiful woodwork. Additionally, each plate/bowl/dish feels perfectly chosen for its specific course – our crab canape was served in a seashell shaped dish – and you are able to watch the chefs plate each one in the open kitchen. I can’t wait to return in the spring and look out...

Tucked away in the tranquil hills of North Salem, La Bastide is a true culinary haven that marries rustic French charm with refined, modern dining. From the moment you step through its doors, the serene atmosphere sets the tone — elegant yet unpretentious, with soft lighting, warm wood tones, and a pastoral view that feels worlds away from the city’s pace.

The food is nothing short of superb. Each dish feels both comforting and elevated — crafted with a clear respect for seasonal ingredients and classic technique. The flavors are bright, balanced, and deeply satisfying. Whether it’s a perfectly seared duck breast, a delicate seafood entrée, or a simple but heavenly dessert, every plate reflects thoughtful artistry and precision.

Service is another standout here. The staff manages that rare balance of professionalism and genuine warmth, offering attentive yet unobtrusive care. Every recommendation feels personal, and every guest is treated like a regular.

La Bastide is more than just a restaurant — it’s an experience of taste and tranquility. For anyone seeking an exceptional meal in a setting that soothes the soul, North Salem’s La Bastide is an absolute must-visit.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Verdict: Tasty, serene, and superbly served — a true delight from start to finish.

Le Bernadine and La bastide are my top two favorite restaurants! I travel often and eat well to recognize...
