The Blazer Pub — Restaurant in Town of North Salem

Ok, here we go. I have always enjoyed a great bone-in rib-eye, great wings and a great burger and this place was to have had (2) of the above mentioned (3). It was noted as one of the best burgers in Westchester and the best in northern Westchester. Long story short it has a good burger and the wings are very good, but it is no Piper's Kilt in Eastchester which still has the best burger in Westchester, accompanied by the best fries, honey mustard and wings!!

First the wings. These were very good. They came out quickly, they came out hot, they were a little crispy and had good hot sauce. The blue cheese complimented them well as some restaurant/pubs' blue cheese ruins their wings. These were 4.5 of 5, easily. I'd go just for the wings and a football game in the Fall! They give you about a dozen wings, good amount.

Second the fries. These were not good by any means. I know some people like "steak fries" over the traditional thin cut fries but these were about 1/2" or 3/4" x 1/2" or 3/4" fries about 5" long. I had read they were like mini potatoes and that was what they were. With that being said they were bland. If my wife and I did not get honey mustard with our fries as we always do, we would not have eaten more than 3 of them. FYI they give you a good amount, 12-14. And oh, the honey mustard was too sweet, not my favorite.

Finally the burger. This burger was supposed to be something that people drive from southern Westchester or Connecticut for and it was not that. The burger patty itself was not what I expected and most people like. It was about 1 1/2" thick by about 3"-4" in diameter. This means A-you need to bite halfway through a bun to get to the meat and B-you can't fit it in your mouth comfortably. I asked for it rare "as in almost mooing" and it came out medium. The flavor though was OK and it was juicy enough. The price was right for dinner for my wife and I and that is the only reason, coupled with the wings, that I gave this place a 3. I would go back as other items looked good but take the drive to Piper's Kilt and order the Eastchester burger rare and don't look back! Average pub as far as decor & vibe goes. We liked the small u-shaped bar which made it easy to meet & chat with people. Chicken Cobb was surprisingly fresh & tasty! Chicken fingers are massive…the order & the fingers the selves. “Small” order of potato wedges was big too…the taste was perfect on those! Cocktails were weak (had 2 rounds to be sure). So get a bottle of something if you visit. The wings, sadly, were a big disappointment. Barely tasted of wing sauce & were dry. We questioned them & even said “maybe the kitchen forgot to do the second fry”, expecting to have them taken away & fixed. The bartender apologized , then brought us more sauce to pour on top. No other action taken. Hmmmm…. but I thought the draw of the “famous” wings was that they were supposedly fried, dipped in sauce & fried again? *Not sure how to pull that off…otherwise everything fried would taste like wings…right? Heard about this place so the wife and I drove up to try it out. Didn't disappoint! Bbq wings were good to start. I wanted to order the Bladder Pub burger but the bartender (can't remember his name) suggested a regular burger because of the big bun on the Blazer (my diet... hahaha) so i had the bacon cheeseburger with caramelized onions... GREAT RECOMMENDATION! One of THE best burgers I've ever had honestly!! The wife had a gorgonzola cheeseburger that she loved as well. This place has a real comfortable homestyle feel to it. Also has Ms Pacman machine, which makes any place better imo. We'll definitely be back with more friends n family to try again... hopefully the same bartender is there as well.
