Lugias was once the place to go to get ice cream, enormous portions for a reasonable price. Now the prices have out-weighed the amount given; making ice cream from other ice cream shops the cheaper option.
I would have thought a weekend afternoon would be a high time for business, and the number of customers seemed to confirm that, however only 2 windows were open.
Part of the experience is waiting in line, but this was quite a long 2 lines that stretched out to the road, so I started my wait, and after about 35 minutes I made it halfway to the window from my starting point. Shortly after this time, a third window was finally open!.. only for a stampede of people from the backs of other lines to come charging forward. Now the total lack of morality/principles from other customers is not lugias fault, however they should be the ones controlling the line to not make other patient customers upset when people standing in line for less than 2 minutes have now cut the line from people who have been there for over 30 minutes, especially when done of those patient people are elderly customers in a wheelchair.
Finally I also have a hard time supporting a business that does not allow it's employees to accept tips, but rather, all tips go...
Read morePros: Good ice cream, more than generous portions, friendly employees, a clean service area, plenty of outdoor seating, well-maintained, vegan options. I highly recommend the vegan pineapple soft serve! Cons: One scoop of ice cream is more expensive than 1.25 quarts at the grocery store. We do wish they offered a smaller option (preemie instead of baby? or "grandparent," maybe? LOL) for half the cost. Still, it's worth a couple visits a year to support an iconic locally-owned business. Bonus: Lugia's flies several flags on their property -- an American flag, a POW flag, a flag honoring police officers, firefighters, and U.S. servicemembers. Today, in addition to those flags, they had a Pride flag. We're unsure if the pride flag flies all the time or if it's flying specifically for Pride month (which is celebrated in July in our neck of the woods, unlike most places that commemorate Pride in June). It doesn't escape us that most places that fly flags honoring the military and law enforcement would not also fly a rainbow flag. And it did not escape us that Lugia's was flying both. If we weren't going to return for any other reason, we will return specifically because we appreciate this show...
Read moreI have been coming to LuGia's for over 15 years now! This Ice Cream place used to be the best spot for the best Ice cream. However it seems that in the last couple of years it has gone down hill from what it used to be.
The best thing about LuGia's and what they are known for are their portions. Starting with Baby going up to Large it's a lot of ice cream! For example a Kiddie is two huge scoops of ice cream if not more. This used to be great, getting a good portion of ice cream for your money. However now the prices have gone up and the scale is just skewed so now a baby (one scoop) at LuGia's is the same price if not more than a small (one scoop) at any other ice cream place.
The quality of the ice cream has also gone down. The past 2 times I have been there I have had chips of ice in the ice cream and others complained their ice cream tasting frost bite.
The only things that have remained the same are that there is always a line and they still have a huge nice picnic area in the back to enjoy your ice cream and converse with other families.
I would say go for the experience but not for the quality anymore :/
