Sad to say our first visit was a big disappointment!
I came across Angelini's via a friends Facebook photos and recommendations. I love Italian and am always looking for a great Italian restaurant. My husband is from Chicago and loves Italian style pizza. After checking out their photos on FB and their website we decided we needed to make it a point to visit on our next date night. The food looked delicious!!!
We visited with another couple. We walked in and were greeted at the host stand by an older gentleman (I assume the owner.) I said "4 please." He responded with, "Now you know, we don't serve pizza on Friday and Saturday nights right?" Very rudely. I thought, "Shoot, well, that's ok, we'll find pasta it something else we'll like." However their "Specialty Pastas" are also only served Sunday thru Thursday as well. What was left on the menu were appetizers and either spaghetti or mosstacholi in different variations (chicken, veal, eggplant parmesan with or without onions and peppers.) A few dishes were served with Alfredo sauce rather than marinara.
The food was "mah." My chicken parmesan had a large piece of tendon thru the middle of it and was tough. The atmosphere was lovely! The service was a little slow, but the waitress was attentive and sweet.
Recommendations:
If it was the owner at the host stand who sat us, you came off very rude. You have to have customers to have a business. You are the first impression of your establishment.
Why NOT serve your specialty pastas or pizza on your busiest 2 nights of the week? The nights people enjoy going out to a meal? I realize baking a deep dish pizza takes a very long time, but that IS what people are coming for.
We will probably not make the 40 minute trip again for a...
Read moreDuring my yearly trips up to Ft. McCoy, I make it a must to stop in at Angelinis for dinner at least one time per trip. Tonight's appetizer consisted of their bruchetta, which looks very unassuming... but once you taste it, there's no going back. The medley of garlic, olive oil, and basil that romanticisises the tomatoes is absolutely amazing. The Italian bread that it comes on was warm, perfectly crisped, and was very complementary.
As I always do, I ordered the house cabernet and paired with the bruchetta was excellent.
For dinner, I typically order their lasagna. I know that sounds hokey, but Angelinis lasagna is just that good. It literally consumes the entire plate in size, and sauce and cheese runneth over. The garlic bread that comes with it makes a perfect scoop for all that leftover sauce, so make sure you indulge yourself in that food play.
Don't pass on the limoncello shots at the end of the meal. It's literally the icing on the cake.
I've not had dessert here on any of my numerous visits. However, I've spoken to other patrons who have, and they speak very highly of the dessert menu. Most of which can't say which dessert to choose, because I'm told "they're all soo good". Roll the dice and see what you get. You probably won't be disappointed.
There also needs to be a discussion about the staff and Tony Angelini himself. What a fantastic family establishment. All the staff are very inviting and will take time even when the restaurant is busy to put up with your shenanigans and carry on some sarcastic banter, if that's something you're into. Overall, Tony runs a fantastic place, and you are doing yourself a disservice if you don't go to his restaurant to fill up on really delicious traditional...
Read moreHe also owns Ginos Pizzeria and Bar in Wisconsin Dells which is where our experience happened. Walked in about 530. At the time there were about 4 tables seated, one had food. Stood around for about 5 minutes before walking up to one of the three staff members behind the bar(who had not bothered to greet us) to ask if we should seat ourselves. After getting a table I tried to order a margaritas, to be told the can't serve "specialty" drinks yet. Limited beer selection as well. Ok fine, ordered sodas, a shrimp basket and a pizza right away. After 15 minutes our shrimp came, no cocktail sauce and when asked of course there was none available. After waiting 50 minutes for our pizza (by this time we also had empty drink glasses no one noticed) we asked on the eta of our food. Especially since the couple tables that had already been there when we walked in still sat waiting on their orders. The server returned from the kitchen and stated, "probably 15 minutes but if you want to leave, leave". We took that as an invitation and left! We won't bother repeating the experience. Proceeded to leave this review on his facebook where he then insulted us several times and offered free pizza to anyone who insulted us as well. Wish I could poat the screenshots here but you can see that mess if you search for his other...
