Growing up, we used to go to County Cottage on occasion. I have fond memories of the counter with the stools where you could go and get the biggest ice cream cone ever. It had an adjacent quaint dining area filled, with pig themed memorabilia. I had not been there in at least a half dozen years and wanted to check it out.
To my surprise, they have expanded! The attached house has been updated and converted into a fantastic dining area (two levels). When we arrived we saw the parking lot was full, but was still able to be seated within minutes (in the past that would have been a 1/2 wait). The décor and vibe of the new section, is clean an inviting. The original dining space remains and still maintains it throwback charm.
The food is still as I remember. Delicious, homemade and reasonable for the experience. The only drawback is the now somewhat limited parking (lot it self), which is expected now that they have expanded.
The location is not in the beaten path, which makes for a nice drive into a more rural setting (vs. the city). There was plenty of service staff, friendly and efficient. The lemon French toast was delicious, the bacon crispy (but not too greasy) and the home fries were cooked to perfection. Breakfast, lunch or dinner, this is a great choice. Vast menu / selection. Check them out, you'll be glad you did!
UPDATE 051224: For Mother's Day I took my Mom to Country Cottage. It was another great experience. We got to me Alicia (one of the family) and she was bubbly, accommodating. This time we sat in the "kitchen" was was part of the original house before it became attached to the existing Country Cottage Structure. Unique for sure.
Again the food was delicious and cooked as requested. It's nice having a local business be successful. We got there early and when we were leaving there were about 50 people waiting in line. That's when you know it's a great place to go! Of course note it was...
Read moreLong time customer; place has always been cozy and decently clean. Food is the main star of the show. They nailed it with the portions, the menu, and the food itself was superb. However in recent times the waitstaff, specifically this one hostess and waitress, have been particularly hostile. At first I had assumed it was just because it had been busy and maybe they were irritated for a variety of reasons but I later concluded this was due to me and friends’ race.
On multiple occasions we were treated rudely - being moved to sit near the restroom, aggressively putting down tableware, snark remarks and patronizing comments when asking about the menu, and in one particular instance when my friend brought her coffee inside, she had brought it with it being in plain view in her hand, but after being sat she had came back around and yelled at my friend for bringing in outside drinks. We asked whether we could go back to the car or to have it thrown out, only to be ignored and she continued to berate and yell at us for “not following what she was saying”. We then asked for her to throw it out for us multiple times until another waitress came by and threw it out for us.
Funny part is, we were gonna order drinks anyways but due to how targeted we felt that time, we just up and left. That was my last experience at country cottage, and honestly if it wasn’t for how hostile we were treated on multiple occasions by that woman my review would’ve been 5 stars. I wouldn’t have even thought twice about going to country...
Read moreGood Review! * Traveler/ Out of Towner Review * I was traveling to northern NY for the first time and stopped to have breakfast here. I simply googled restaurants near me as I was about 5 minutes up the road and needed a place to grab a good bite to eat. I opted to stop here because of the good looking pictures of the food and positive reviews. I opted to eat here over the Original Pancake House which was about the same distance away. (A few of their reviews were not as positive and the omelette did not look as good, which is what I wanted!)
We were immediately greeted among entering the restaurant and seated right away as well. And that was very appreciated, the welcome mostly. The restaurant had many other diners also but we opted to sit outside and enjoyed the outdoor seating. The hostess took our drink orders also which was nice instead of having to wait for our server, however our server came out quickly after.
Our food was delicious. It was hot and properly prepared as ordered, and came out with the additional condiments I requested. I ordered an omelette which came with fried potatoes and toasts. It was all very good.
Our server Marie was friendly and experienced and did a good job serving us for the short time we dined.
I would dine here again and recommend this restaurant. It reminded me of a place I’m use to back home and that was comforting. I knew I picked a good...
