El Coyote recently opened in Garrison and from what I understand, they have two more locations. I was so hopeful going in there but we were disappointed. It had been a sports bar for several years and after it closed it was vacant for quite some time. It was my closest friends birthday and I wanted it to be special. We have all been isolated for the past year and it felt great to be out with framily (friends who are as close as family :). We had a lovely table set apart some from the other patrons. There were nine of us so the location was great. We ordered the jalapeno poppers, guacamole and queso fundido with chorizo for appetizers. The poppers were good, there were six jalapeno halves filled with cheese and half were extremely hot and the others weren't hot at all. The queso was good and my friends liked the guacamole. I had a combo, cheese enchilada and chicken burrito dinner. There was a very strong flavor of taco seasoning so I believe that's the spice cumin. It was a turnoff so I only ended up eating a few bites. Before I go on, at first I was obsessed with the salsa and chips but then after around an hour al, I tasted was salt. Its 2 hours after dinner and I'm still tasting salt. The chips weren't freshly made like many restaurants serve locally. These were wholesale and very salty. The kicker is that the wait staff comes out singing Happy Birthday, which was very nice but the piece of flan that held the candle was inedible!! Instead of creamy it was hard (my friend couldn't get a spoon through it) and the little my friend could scrape of it tasted sour. The milk they brought out for the coffee curdled and my husbands coffee had a strange after taste. Very...
Read more-- Update: Thank you for responding. I have been back and ordered take-out several times since. Food is definitely delicious. I love the enchiladas, the chimichangas, and the jalapeno poppers. The salsa is also great, wish it was a little spicier but the freshness you can't beat. Oh and the beans... the beans remind me of home. So glad to have them in the neighborhood. There are always a few kinks when you open, but I think they have got a good rhythm now. Upped my rating. So I’m going to be a little harsh because I do want a quality restaurant back so close, but appeasing to the masses is going to get you in trouble. Anyway, let’s move on...
I have been there now three times. I have never seen more than one manager, and things always seem a bit in chaos. The full management staff should be out, especially during happy hour, fri/sat nights. You’re brand new here. You should try to become local friendly. Trust me, when the nice weather moves away you’ll need the locals to feel appreciated.
Problems I’m having: appetizer and entrée comes out at the same time never a table touch by anyone asking how we are doing waiting over an hour for food waiting 20 mins for drinks and chips n salsa
If you don’t change the quality of service you are providing you will not make it here. Learn to take care of the quiet tables.
The “masses” btw are the hikers and golfers and large (12+ people w/o a reservation) parties that think all service should go to them and are...
Read moreSorry but here’s my review. Stop reading here if you’re interested in knowing anything about the food since we didn’t get any. We had a small event on a Sunday in Garrison and being Manhattanites We get very nervous that we won’t get food after 8pm upstate so I did my research. This was the only place on google maps open till 11 according to google maps. I called to make sure they would serve us food for a reservation of 8pm for 4 on Sunday. A girl answered and took the reservation told me not to worry. My gf got nervous as the date approached and after an argument I did call back to make the reservation for 6 for 830 but assured them we would be there before then, the man I talked to assured me no problem. That Sunday came. We arrive just before 8. The hostess was surprised to see us and told us the kitchen was closed. We did not argue but my gf told me she could see our name written in the reservation book. It was the only reserve all day. $50 in cab fares and a hungry hour train ride back to the city we were comforted by our warm battery. Ramen at midnight in midtown is like a warm heavy blanket. F-U el coyote. We won’t be back and will continue to...
