Sayner Pub — Restaurant in Town of Plum Lake

I have celiac disease and had seen a previous review about having gluten free pizza crust so thought we could give it a try while in the area for a family vacation. Nothing on the menu indicated that gluten free anything was offered, so I asked when I ordered. The waitress told me that they don't take any measures to protect it and that there was "flour everywhere". I opted for a salad instead and specifically mentioned my allergy again when asking for no croutons. An hour later when the food arrived, the waitress plopped down my plate and quickly walked away when I realized there was a bread stick on it. When I yelled to get her attention she came back, laughed, and said "oh I didn't even think about the bread stick", while laughing. I couldn't tell if I felt nauseous after eating because of the food or from the pure rage I was feeling. I always give people the benefit of the doubt, especially when they show even minimal interest or understanding in my food needs. I felt belittled, humiliated, and completely devastated by this experience. If I could give negative stars I would, don't even bother stepping foot in the door. In today's world, food allergies are everywhere, you would think when your job is literally in the food industry, you'd understand. Living in Wisconsin for most of my life, pizza is part of the culture. Living out of State now, I miss a good thin crust pizza! Visiting the North Woods I knew I had to enjoy some pizza and from times past, we chose Sayner Pub. Arriving shortly before noon to avoid the lunch crowd, we were seated right away. Our server was very pleasant and took our drink orders while we decided on our food. We decided two pizzas were needed to give us plead leftovers to enjoy the next day. We also had one order for the crispy chicken sandwich with fries. The pizza and chicken arrived within a reasonable amount of time. The delicious smell of a good pizza was terrific! The pizza was cooked to perfection with a crisp edge and plenty of toppings. The chicken sandwich was also prepared very well and I was told it was one of the best they have had in a long time. Sayner Pub - Vilas County - Sayner, WI - this was our first visit, a friend from San Diego recommended meeting here for dinner - it was a great recommendation. We enjoyed some dark bier at the bar, made right in Woodruff - while making new friends and enjoying the conversation. Dinner was in the dining room - we tried the Bullseye Pizza and it was delicious, our friend had the fish sandwich and fries and honestly couldn't finish it as it was so big. Great food, served in the Northwoods ambiance, by friendly people - that's what we were looking for and that's what we got and that's why we'll be back again soon.
