This review does not include their food. I visited because people were saying that its great to go to even when you’re not eating there. It honestly was very underwhelming compared to all the great things people said about it. Their sugar hut was closed when i went there. They have quails outside in cages and it honestly looks like they should taken away from them. They looked like they have not been clean in weeks, tons and tons of eggs were sitting in the cages. The worse part is, inside the box in the cage, i honestly believe i saw a deceased quail. There was a large pile of feather and i saw the top of a bird skull. Ive been hunting for years, i know what a bird skull looks like. The video i tried to take of the skull is not good quality. But i show the pointed tip on the skull and the indented cavities one the beak area of the skull. The fact that a fully decomposed bird is in there shows you how often they clean or pay attention to the health of the birds. In the video, you can see that green moss was starting to grown on their water container. I do plan on contacting animal agencies to look into this place and how they treat their animal, in hopes of something being done about this. Don’t have animals you can’t take care of. Also, their gift shop was underwhelming too. It was small, didn’t have a lot of variety, and they sold other products from other companies/ non-small businesses. I didn’t really find anything that was from spragues. The only part I actually enjoyed was the trail in the woods. They had some cute statues and decorations on trees. They did have a Teepee and an educational board talking about the native Americans, but they referred to the natives as “Idians”, seriously?? They are not from india, they are not indias. They really need to update that board. We have learned so much about Native Americans and their impact on this country, have some...
Read moreNormally I would give Spragues a much higher rating as it is one of the best restaurants in the area, in fact I celebrated my engagement there. but this last experience I had there was very disappointing. I live out of the country (Europe) and came home to celebrate the birth and baptism of my baby. After the baptism we wanted to take my family out to eat. I called a couple weeks before and told the date and that it would be a very large party of 20+ people to which they simply told me they don’t take reservations to which I said OK really it even for parties that big and they said no they will put the tables together when we arrive. They didn’t even bother to mention that there was going to be a huge event that weekend, which I wouldn’t have know since I live far away.
We arrived there today, gave the number of people we had and after a short wait, they gave us 2 tables that were near each other but totally separated our party so that we couldn’t even try to pretend we were together. To make matters worse, our orders were taken, distributed and billed separately even though I explained we were all together. We had different waitresses and completely different experiences. Maybe because I ended up at what we deemed “the kids table” we didn’t get the same attention that the table with the priest and grandparents received but all in all it was a huge disappointment.
Many restaurants that don’t take reservations make accommodations for larger parties and take a deposit. I won’t make the effort to return to Spragues with any sort of expectation of togetherness or...
Read moreOn the last Sunday in July, we went to Sprague's around 5 pm for dinner.
The hostess was not at the stand, so we waited a short while for her to arrive. She walked over quickly and didn't even look at us while she looked and talked "at" a book on her stand, saying, "just the two of you?" The restaurant didn't seem that busy at all, and we were the only ones in line, so we were a bit surprised by her brusqueness.
Our waitress, by contrast, was very pleasant and quick to bring our food. The food was delicious! We both had the roast turkey dinner, and I had the maple pecan pie. Very tasty!
As we left, we noticed that there was one person standing in line, and the hostess wasn't there again. I glanced over at the kitchen and saw the hostess sort of pacing back and forth. I watched for a moment, and she just kept pacing. I don't know if the hostess had some sort of emotional issue going on, but someone needs to be paying more consistent attention to the hostess stand. When business is slow-ish, you don't want to keep waiting any longer than necessary, especially when it appears that the host or hostess appears to not be busy but is also not paying attention to arriving guests.
The food was awesome, but if management is reading this, I'd suggest talking to the host/hostess team about how to do their job well, which includes watching for when guests arrive, as well as how to greet guests as they arrive. If that gets fixed, it'd be a 5 out of 5 all...
