Montego Bay Restaurant — Restaurant in Town of Poughkeepsie

PLEASE READ THIS! I AM HIGHLY DISAPPOINTED WITH THIS PLACE. FOR A PLACE THAT JUST OPENED UP IS DOING REALLY BAD. THEY HAVE NO SIGN TO THEIR RESTAURANT STATING MONTEGO BAY ANYWHERE. WHEN I CAME INSIDE IT WAS COMPLETELY EMPTY AND IT LOOKED LIKE I WAS IN THE WRONG PLACE. OTHER PEOPLE CAME IN ALSO CONFUSED. I HAD TO WAIT A FEW MINUTES BEFORE ANYONE CAME OUT. IT WAS ONLY 1 FEMALE THERE TAKING ORDERS AND SHE GOT MY ORDER WRONG. I TOLD HER I WANTED AN ORDER OF CURRY CHICKEN WITH NO CABBAGE AND SHE STILL GAVE IT TO ME. THE PRICES ($17) DOESN'T MATCH THE ORDERS. THEY GAVE MY GIRLFRIEND AND I SKIMPY PLATES. I BARELY HAD CURRY CHICKEN AND THE CHICKEN HAD ALOT OF BONE TO IT. I ALSO DIDN'T LIKE HOW THEY DIDN'T PUT THE CURRY CHICKEN ON TOP OF THE RICE. IT LOOKED LIKE THEY JUST THREW EVERYTHING INTO THE TRAY REALLY FAST AND IT DIDNT LOOK PRETTY WHEN I OPENED IT UP. THE RICE WAS CLUMPY. PIECES OF RICE STUCK TOGETHER. MY GIRLFRIEND ORDERED A PLATE OF JERK CHICKEN AND HERS WAS SKIMPY TOO. THEY WAS RUSHING EVERYONE ORDERS, AND THEY DO NOT HAVE ANYTHING ORGANIZED. THE PRICES ARE WAY TOO HIGH FOR A LITTLE BIT OF FOOD! ALSO, THE RESTAURANT ITSELF HAS NOTHING INSIDE, LIKE NOTHING ACCEPT FOR CHAIRS AND TABLES. I WOULDVE THOUGHT I WAS STILL IN THE OLD BAR THAT WAS THERE. THEY ARE NOT GOOD FOR JAMAICAN FOOD AT ALL . THEY ARE ALSO UNDERSTAFFED. I WILL NEVER GO BACK TO THIS PLACE AND I DONT RECOMMEND...

We have only ordered to-go from here a few times and normally my husband picks it up. Tonight I went in and the atmosphere was so cozy, with a beautiful wood-stove and awesome looking pool table. When I spoke to the gentleman behind the counter, who I assume was the owner, I told him how nice I thought it was inside, but explained that we have a one year old who tends to throw her food so that’s why we ordered take out. He insisted that it was ok if we brought her in, and that they understand kids, and if she made a mess it was no big deal. I found that to be one of the most genuine, understanding interactions with a restaurant owner I’ve ever had! And he was absolutely sincere! The food is delicious, I got the curry goat and my husband got the fried chicken with fries. Both were amazing. The picture of my food is AFTER I ate a ton of it. Portions are very generous. I couldn't be more disappointed. My other half (she's from the islands) and I have been going there since they opened. It use to be the only place that we would go for oxtail. It was fantastic and fairly priced. The ladies that worked there were fantastic as well. We had not been there since the beginning of covid because of the obvious restrictions. Well first off, the prices were much much higher (19.95 for a medium and 21.95 for large) and the portions of oxtail in comparison to the mound of rice is terrible. The oxtail itself were small and little pieces like it was the end of the batch. We spent 45.00 for a bunch of rice.
