3.5 Stars. Small dive place, nice staff. The cheese curds are amazing, huge, good batter. Unfortunately we ordered Cajun style, too salty and gross. Order plain they are good as-is. The smoked wings were okay, had a dry rub, again a little over powering with the salt. The BBQ fries were good but the pulled pork was a little muddy, brisket would have been better. The fries were crispy and perfect! Coleslaw totally unnecessary. The sauces,,, hard time finding one we liked. A Texas style, kind of peppery/spicy and sweet is desperately needed. Comfortable atmosphere, good drink selection.

Hole in the wall bbq joint that offers daily specials such as bbq meatloaf. I had rib/brisket combo with smoked mac n cheese. The ribs were not my favorite. Very little smoke flavor and rub. They were dried out and the skin was not removed from the rib side. I added the blueberry bbq sauce to moisten and flavor them, that sauce is 5 stars. If you like hot try the hellfire but have a glass of water handy. The cornbread hush puppies were sweet, hot and moist. The mac n cheese was smothered in cheese sauce and pulled pork. Overall good hole in the wall bbq smokehouse.

Reheating of there Ribs making them very dry. The coleslaw had in my opinion way to much lemon in it, and adding cinnamon to there BBQ sauce isn't the best of sauce flavors to have on Ribs. Very poor in my opinion with reheating of the ribs to order. Saturday night food should be served fresh not dipping into the freezer to satisfy there customers craving for ture BBQ.

THE GOOD: The food was pretty darn good! Fried cheese curds are to die for. I love the upscale "pulled" chicken sandwiches with the slaw on top. I thought the buns were pretty good actually. I did not mind plastic utensils and containers, as most TRUE BBQ places, that is what you get because they do tend to be more take out, and they are meant to be super casual. However....we did not receive any to eat our meals with. It's BBQ.....eating with your hands...getting it on your face. I also found the menu a little confusing, mostly because everything I tried to order over the phone, the worker told me they didn't have or that's not ON the menu? So I don't know what menu I was looking at. I loved the mashed red potatoes! They were really good. Food was pretty much ready when my husband arrived to pick it up, so no problems with wait. He said everyone friendly....but ALOT of young teens working. THE MINOR ISSUES: Very, very little BBQ sauce on meat. I was surprised by that and disappointed that I couldn't try some of their sauce. When I tried to phone in an order for delivery, I was told "No delivery" despite the menu saying delivery available. So I had my husband drive in to pick up. While he waited in line, he was chatting and said he tried to try the food the night before, but he was told "no delivery" to which an employee replied there was delivery....the guy was just out yesterday. (Girl answering phone : there is a difference between " NO DELIVERY " and none TONIGHT. ) The ordering probs....literally everything I asked for listed except rib dinner, sandwich, and cheese....I was told was not available. The sides that come with certain things, has changed or? But we ordered the beans....they were ice cold in a small plastic cup. I am not sure if they were supposed to be like that or not? Ice cold, literally right out of a fridge? We still do not know if they are supposed to be eaten that way or not....but the cold baked beans were not my fav. I was expecting hot baked beans I guess. I hope the wood BBQ can get some more staff that have some experience in food service behind their counter, that can maybe help with the challenges of serving the public. Or the new staff gain the XP they need to make sure orders go out correctly and are able to give info about their food over the phone. Good luck! I hope business improves and the kinks...

I went on April 29 2017

don't see many current reviews or even a review section of this on fb so I'm putting here and on google Bc it was THAT GOOD!!

Out of 66 reviews on google there was maybe 8-10 that wasn't happy... mainly for limited seating, well worth the wait in my opinion and they claimed prices were a little high BUT I know enough about BBQ and that it takes HOURSSS to cook one brisket so the prices for my husband and I to both have same meal she had fries not Mac n cheese and both had a drink and was 40$ if I'd of went to a big chain we'd of paid over 60$

I also read a comment on google review about the Mac n cheese being "bland" I could see where someone could complain BUT i loved it bc I'd rather be able to add a little salt on then not be able to take some out, loved the little pork or chicken in the Mac n cheese also mmmhmmm.

Another YUM OH is the coleslaw and the fritters MY GOSH!!! Clearly homemade and DELISH AS WELL!!!

The ribs were AMAZING whatever that secret family wood sauce is ... is well worth the secret lol, I could eat pounds of them bad boys!! And as for the brisket oh mannnnn so tender and perfect... I will say it was a tad on the cold side but I'm one that I liked it SOO much I could eat it cold on a lunch sandwich lol!!!!

My grandma Marcella was with and got a pulled pork sandwich paid 5$ and got a huge sandwich and was well worth the price!! She also LOVED the BBQ sauce!!

The owner Craig (i looked at info b4 i went so I know it was him haha) is who's checked me at the front! He was super nice , other waitress's were super nice and friendly, yes the seating is limited to like 18-20 people Inside during not so nice days But has plenary of seats outside ... I'll be back and bringing friends bc I'd be okay sitting on a back of a tailgate in the parking lot eating this food !!!

someone else said about it being served on paper plates vs "real"plates... I never been to a REAL BBQ joint that NEVER had paper plates!! The items they cook are really expensive cuts of meat... I would rather eat on paper pay 40$ a couple then pay 60$ Just Bc it's a glass plate !!

Either way WORH GOING TO!! Love the tiny hut ! Can NOT wait till summer warmer hours NO RAIN LOL!!

I WILL BE...

The food here is very good - great, actually. The service is where there's a problem. I realize Wood BBQ is new, and some kinks are to be expected. The thing is, I've been in here 3 times, and the service has gotten worse each time including ridiculous wait times for called-in orders (for example, you're told to come pick up your order at 7:30, but it won't be ready for another 20 minutes) and incomplete or messed up orders (I will order 2 of the exact same thing and one order will be missing a coleslaw and another will have two sides such as mashed potatoes and potato salad).

Just from observation, it appears there are too many employees and no one seems to know what they should be doing in the moment while others try to pick up the slack from the people who are literally wandering behind the front counter. Orders will sit for long periods of time before a name or number is called out (and truthfully, some type of PA system would actually be useful so people can hear when they're order is ready). And maybe just have it be carryout/delivery only with no dining-in since the space is limited as it is.

In addition, I think the menu could be simplified further. For example, Wood offers daily lunch and dinner specials, but I don't think that's really necessary at this stage of their business. Stick with a handful of main items with a few side choices. People will still come in droves because as I said before, the food is very good and Sauk was in desperate need of a BBQ place.

I sincerely hope Wood BBQ can remedy its service issues as the food is great and the owner seems like a nice guy. I think I might take a break for a bit until they can get things...
