Wish we had as welcoming of an experience as many other reviewers, but sadly we did not. I was there for lunch and loved it. Waitress had us take a seat right when we walked in, she was friendly and food was great. Went back with a large party the following night for dinner... wow what a different experience! There was not a table large enough, no big deal. Bartender said we could not eat in the bar area, also not a big deal. Staff had not acknowledged us yet after 5 minutes so we just split into two groups and took a seat. That's when things got strange! We were met by a crazed red headed woman waiving her arms in the air and making a huge scene. Apparently you can't seat yourself, an act that would have been known had the wait staff been kind enough to acknowledge us. A few of us tried to explain we didn't know and were immediately met with a defiant and crazed sister that was more bent on arguing with the customers now. Unfortunately, that was enough and we left. On a positive note, I would say the food was very good for lunch. Upscale menu in a northwoods dive bar. I like that alot. We had planned to go back as many times as we could while we were visiting. I won't now, but if you choose to try this place, the hazelnut duck appatizer was amazing. For dinner, I imagine they must be under staffed and stressed. They have a great chef, but a staff that can't handle a half full restaurant. Wait to be seated, you are required to know this without a sign. If the waitress ignores you, assume she is too busy to communicate that to the customers or it will be taken out on you loudly and publicly. I'm sure you'll have a delicious meal, just don't upset a sister or you'll see something far nuttier than that delicious hazelnut...
Read moreI would rate the service and management as zero stars if I could. On July 6 at 5:00 pm we called ahead to ask about outside seating and were told it was available and to come on by. To make matters worse on top of everything else, we bought someone that has difficulty walking. Upon arrival we sat outside at the picnic table and one of us walked inside to tell them we were there and were given menus, no problem for sitting outside. After reading the menus and were ready to order, we were left waiting for long time. One of us finally went in to inquire and we were told there was no outside social distancing seating. There were simple remedies to fix the situation, but the lady bartender seemed to cop an attitude. What they don't realize is they turned away (because of the attitude and lying) two local and two tourists patrons. You may think that this is not a big deal, however you wonder where your revenue is going, it's going to your competition. You have four people now that will never step foot in your establishment, ever. And we will tell...
Read moreCalled ahead to ask if outdoor seating was available and was told yes. Arrived 15 minutes later and bartender gave us menus, told us to find a place and she or “Tammy” would be right out. Waited and finally went inside to order drinks. When I mentioned we were waiting still, the response was “Sorry, I thought Tammy told you, we’re not doing outdoor seating. You’ll have to come in here.”
Dining out during the pandemic (with an 80 year old high risk parent) is difficult, but such experiences are inexcusable. What a shame a restaurant that once had good food can be so pathetic—no offer of any accommodation was made, and apparently it’s deemed acceptable to lie (twice) to potential patrons.
By the way, when I asked for my money for the (untouched) drinks back, it was quickly given, but with a “Don’t worry, hon, we’ll have these drunk...
