Cold beer, awesome pizza on Burden Lake in #averillpark #averillparkny #kayspizza

I have been hearing rave reviews about this place for at least a year and finally got the opportunity to try it last night. We were warmly welcomed by staff and had a very reasonable 20 min wait for outside dining which was cozy and the perfect amount of breezy at 6:45pm on a Wednesday night. I see why this place is regarded so highly. Christina took great care of us and our Thai chicken pizza came out hot and fresh and quickly! What a unique combination of flavors -perfectly seasoned, chicken and pizza both crisp and cooked to perfection, sauce was delicious! As someone who has been in the hospitality industry for decades I got the vibe that all the staff were genuinely happy to be there and were enjoying their shift which isn't always the case in restaurants. There was also a gentleman checking on all the tables who seemed genuinely invested in the guest's satisfaction which was a nice touch. The lakeside views while we waited of the ducks were pristine. It seems they have all the logistics figured out with their "drive thru" pick up lane and lots of signs about parking. This place really knows what they're doing in all areas and it shows. Coming from Schenectady it was quite the trek but definitely worthwhile! I hope to return and enjoy another meal there before the season is over.

Kay’s is the cornerstone of summer dining — a true pillar of crispy pizza and ice-cold pitchers of beer. The wings and calamari round out the experience, creating a field of flavor that hits all the right notes. While the calamari could’ve been a touch crispier, it was still a delicious treat. The wings get a solid 8.0, and the pizza earns the same — crispy, cheesy, and just what you want after a swim or a sunny drive. All in all, Kay’s is a great place to unwind and enjoy good food with friends or family. Don’t be intimidated by the parking — it always looks busier than it really is. Just go in, grab a table, and enjoy one of the most classic summer spots around.

This place is always busy-but I completely understand! If you're okay with waiting for a table, and a busy dining space to get some reasonably priced food that is beyond delicious-then this is most definitely the place for you! The food is so good and it's only open for the summer, so everyone has to go get their fill of Kay's! The staff is always so friendly, prompt and over-all willing to make your dining experience as great as possible. The food is reasonably priced, and I have yet to have something I don't enjoy from here. Their pizza is always cooked perfectly, their bread sticks come out HOT and fresh, their wings are moist and have the perfect amount of sauce and their desserts are just as amazing. I pride myself being a pizza connoisseur and this is most definitely at the top of my list during their open season! The cheese on the pizza always does 'the thing' as in the cheese pull, and the amount on the pizza is always consistent. There's ALWAYS enough toppings on their pizzas and you can tell the toppings are fresh as they don't taste like the inside of a fridge, the sauce they use is amazing and fresh-and they manage to also put the right amount on it as well! Their wings are probably some of the best I've ever had (bone and boneless)-they're still crispy even with sauce, hot, moist and the servings are very generous for the price. I'm also a carb lover and their bread sticks never cease to amaze me. They are so hot and fresh with the right amount of seasoning and again, have a generous amount of marinara to dip them in. Don't even get me started on their desserts, their brownie sundae is out of this world-again it's a generous size and was easily shared between 2 adults. The brownie is fresh and warmed up, with what tastes like Stewart's Philly Vanilla on it. I've never not loved food from Kay's. I'd give it 10 out of 5 stars if it...

We have eaten here a couple of times over the last year, and my opinion is that this place likely lives off of nostalgia. The food was ok, but certainly nowhere near the best pizza I’ve ever had. They are open seasonally for folks looking to eat here who aren’t familiar.

The good: This place has a great location and a very nice view of the lake. It feels like an old neighborhood restaurant and is pretty lively. They have tables inside and out so you can enjoy the restaurant from your preferred location. The service we had both times was good. It is a bit loud at times so isn’t a place you will be able to have a deep conversation, but good for families with kids or for a drink with friends at the end of the week. I enjoyed the ambiance overall, and would probably come here for a drink and maybe an appetizer once in a while for the view and the atmosphere mostly.

The not so good:

After seeing all of the great reviews, we ordered the pizza. It was not very good in my opinion. It was oily and the sauce was way too tangy. It was like a homemade version of a Dominos pizza, which some people may really like, but is not what I’m looking for when I order a pizza. It was also a bit pricey for what you get imho. Pretty sloppy and cooked a bit over or under (based on the few pies we tried). The meatballs were hard, yet somehow the other toppings didn’t feel like they were cooked well enough and threw all textures off a bit. Overall we were disappointed given all of the 5 star reviews as our expectations were pretty high. I can understand why people like this place, but there are far better options for food...

Had to check this place out bc EVERYONE I work with recommended it. Only about 20 min outside of downtown Albany, not a far drive but you definitely have to know where you're headed bc there's very little signage until you get very close - The wait was 1h30m and cars were parked almost 1/2 mile away from the actual restaurant down this little road that goes around the lake (we looped back and found closer parking as someone was leaving) bellied up to the bar & we had a beer while we waited outside in the rain, clinging to the porch and hiding in a gazebo, once we got inside I was very impressed by the decor and how many people they had comfortably jammed into this old lake camp! The service was super fast (almost too fast, the centers of both our pizzas were a bit undercooked), and the food was delicious! Friendly and fun atmosphere - we joined into a conversation with the table next to us (the tables are SUPER close together so it was hard NOT to overhear and add our thoughts in!) & My boyfriend elbowed our waitress in the behind, he apologized and then did it again a few minutes later, but in his defense, we had zero room to do anything but sit with our hands at our sides whenever anyone walked by! But we will definitely be back when they reopen in the spring and maybe next time, if the wait is more than 1 hour, well just order ahead and take it home to...
