When I first moved to the Syracuse area from a place with amazing Thai food (LA) I quickly despaired of finding any good Thai food in the area. Place after place was bland, inauthentic and borderline inedible. I stopped eating Thai even though it is by far my favorite food in the world. And then...on a lark I gave one more place a try, my pallet desperate for just one pad thai that I could actually eat. I stepped in, ordered my food and cautiously.. .tentatively...took my first bite. Oh the joy! OH THE JOY!!!! The food was cooked perfectly! Each element was perfectly made; and each would have made a perfect dish on its own. The chicken in the pad thai is some of the best chicken I've ever had. I've now gone back many times and slowly made my way through the menu and each time I go is just as good, if not better then before. The owners are some of the nicest, hardworking people you will ever meet and you can tell that their restaurant isn't just a means of making a livelihood, it is a way to convey joy to the community. My one complaint is that it isn't better known! If people knew how good this place was it would be in magazines, with lines out the door. Don't let the small out of the way location fool you, the best Thai food in upstate New York lies inside. It's well worth the 20 minute drive from Syracuse. It would be worth driving an hour...two hours to get there. If you love Thai food you have...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThis was the worst "Thai" I have ever had. I thought Pad Thai was safe. It was like sweet and sour soup. The sauce was super sweet and didn't absorb into the noodles- also the noodles were either soaked too long or overcooked and broke apart which made it almost impossible to eat. The supposed rice paper egg roll was absolutely not rice paper. I have made traditional rice paper Vietnamese egg rolls many times and know very well how rice paper behaves and tastes. The waitress insisted it was rice but after one bite, I knew that it did not behave or taste like it. I called her back and questioned her again and she again insisted that it was "thicker rice paper". From the texture, the obvious glutinous way it stuck together, and the way I feel I'm certain it was wheat. Total disregard for allergen safety. My dining companion had red curry which was almost tasteless. It's too bad because the ingredients themselves were good. I don't know if they were trying to "Americanize" the food but nothing we had tasted...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI was in search for a good Thai resturaunt because I have eaten Thai food for years and love it, I came across Basil Thai and notice all the positive reviews. As I entered the establishment I was greeted with a āpick upā āpick upā. We sat at a table and order our food. We order the chicken wings which were delicious, I ordered masaman curry and my boyfriend the pad Thai with beef, I have eaten masaman before so I really didnāt read the ingredients (my fault) I did not it try it because it had beef (I donāt eat beef), I had to order something else, never once was were we asked if the good was good, I had to get up and order. My boyfriend said the pad Thai was good so I ordered it with chicken. Needless to say it was more like a middle soup, there was no much sauce it just ruined my experience. Many regulars came in to pick up food, so I can see why they had good ratings. Unfortunately, I just did not have a good experience at all. This was my first and last time at Basil Thai. If you decided to dine in donāt...
