Birmingham’s, Door County — Where Grit Meets Supper Club Charm

Step into Birmingham’s and you’ll swear you just wandered into the set of a Wisconsin noir — half supper club, half small-town battlefield. Our waitress, a glorious battle axe of a woman (or maybe a wounded fighter back from the front), limped from table to table with the precision of a seasoned general. No nonsense, no frills — just the business of food and drink, delivered with a side of steely resolve. Frankly, we loved her.

The bar was jammed, as if the entire county got the memo that Friday cocktails taste better shoulder-to-shoulder. The tables? Sparse. A scattering of diners here and there, all eyeing the table with the coveted view (not ours, of course — next time we’ll arm wrestle for it).

The vibe is pure classic: dark wood, old-school charm, and the faint feeling that everyone knows everyone’s business — and doesn’t mind a bit. They run a rotating menu that changes daily, which keeps things interesting and keeps you guessing (Wednesday’s perch? Thursday’s ribs? Roll the dice). Our food was solid — kitchen on point — but rumor around the bar says the burger is the crown jewel. We’ll be back to test that legend ourselves.

All told? Birmingham’s is a little rough around the edges and all the better for it. Come for the supper club nostalgia, stay for the waitress who could probably teach you a thing or...

If you would like a Door County home cooked fish fry you have to give this place a try. I had the pan fried lake perch with fresh hand cut fries. The coleslaw was excellent, not cream base, vinegar and sugar. 6 of us visited and all our meals were great. Service was great and we did wait a bit for our meals as its to be expected with how busy they were, on a Friday. Definitely worth it. Oh and do not, repeat, do not miss the fried cheese curds. You are in WI now so out of any cheese dish you can find the curds are #1 here with ranch dip. We had 2 orders of them to start. With the Old Style sign out front you know it is a down home local WI experience and they deliver that!!! Of course there is a pinball...

My family and I have been coming here for many many years. The food has stayed very good, especially their handmade burgers. I'm a little disappointed in some of the changes over the years; you used to be able to sit and order at the table, but now you need to order at the bar and wait. That can get very crowded and with a 3 yr old it's kind of difficult to sit there surrounded by so much going on. It would have been a lot easier to sit in the dining room. There were at least 5 open tables and it's much quieter there. I also miss that the homemade bread is now only on Saturdays. The owners and workers are always very friendly and will help you with a smile. Very beautiful...

Friday night perch and whitefish! Not your typical dining out experience. Belly up to the bar if you can find a spot. Get a drink and order your meal. Enjoy your drink, talk to the people around you. When your dinner is ready they will send you to the dining room. You will know your table by the number of place settings. Your food will arrive hot and delicious. Order the special of the day, that's the reason to go there. You will feel out of place until that moment when you fit right in.

Saw this cool place on Google Maps. 3 of us ladies on a Door County Trip ate here on our first night here. It has a lot of history that should be enjoyed. Reasonable prices. I had the chicken dinner and it was great. Baked chicken, homemade potatoes with gravy, coleslaw, cranberry dressing, a roll and a homemade fudge and Carmel brownie for $13! I had an Old Fashioned and it was good. It is not fancy but the atmosphere and food was great. We loved it.
