GERMANIA Longbranch Saloon — Restaurant in Town of Shields

We stopped in after driving through the safari and were so glad we did! (My original plan was to stop here after a long hike on the Ice Age Trail to work up an appetite, but I wasn't going to pass up the chance to drop in while we were already in the area).

I don't remember where I first heard about the Hippo Burger, but I've had this place saved to my maps for quite a while now, waiting for a chance to get to the area to try it. It was awesome, both in size and taste!

The bartender was very friendly, the prices are great, and the decor was very funny (thanks for stopping in, now get out!) We sat out on the deck to enjoy the nice day, and it was just a really pleasant experience.

I highly recommend stopping in here. Come really hungry or with a group if you're going to try the Hippo Burger.

Perfect country bar. Only food prepared between 2 and 4:30 is pizza. I was ok with that. I let the female bartender know at 3:15 I would like to order a pizza. She ended up leaving 15 minutes later to run errands, so I ordered a pizza at 3:45 and I really felt like I was an inconvenience when Donny arrived.....perhaps the owner? He really turned the whole experience sour, complaining that he was getting ready for the rush and made me feel like I was asking too much to place that pizza order. After that, getting a drink was nearly impossible. Perhaps I didn't understand that ordering a pizza 75 minutes b4 fish fry time was inappropriate....if that is the case, then maybe offer pizzas from 2 to 3:30? The pizza was ready at 4:00. The Long branch has always been a favorite for my family for several years, and the burger special on Tuesdays is generally when we go. However y'all recently changed up your short order cooks and the food out times are now anything but short.
