Bonappetito Pizzeria and Ristorante — Restaurant in Town of Smithtown

My friends and I have not been to the restaurant in a few years. We used to have our Christmas parties here on Monday night, July 21, 2021. We were a party of seven and there was another party probably about 16 and the next table for the pasta special night $16.99. It took a while for the waitress to get to us, but she was kind. She bought a garlic knots that were the size of a small pretzel. They were warm but hard not taste. I had salad with my meal with blue cheese dressing. I didn’t feel that great after eating the salad with blue cheese dressing. For the pasta. I had phillepe pomadora . The sauce was horrible. My Husband had white clam sauce it was nasty. The other couples has white clam sauce too it was terrible. We were not asked if we wanted any more to drink. Had to keep asking the waitress to bring us water. The other group had already left when the time came to pay the bill one of our group members told us how much to pay. The waitress never counted or came back with any change. Come to find out later we overpaid because the one person in the group taken care of the bill made a complete error. The waitress should’ve came back with extra money, never did . We will never die in this place again a. The food is not good like it used to be.B. The service isn’t that good? C. This is our go to take out restaurant. Twice a month they mess up- and it’s not a quick fix. We are use to it. Or there’s a 45 minute wait and it’s a pie. But this time- idk if I can go back. I added 6 garlic knots to my order at pick up. Watched the employee take his bare hands (no gloves) to dig into the container to grab parm cheese to sprinkle on my garlic knots. Yes- all restaurants do this but it’s a different feeling when it is witnessed with my own eyes. I was baffled, stunned. Then I thought maybe the dirty germs will get killed off when I heat the knots myself at home. I couldn’t talk I myself into eating them and serve them to my young children. I was so grossed out when I left I just went to the nearest garbage stationed outside the restaurant and threw the garlic knots out. I should have said something but I’m just beaten down from life and I didn’t verbally fight this battle. Hours later it still bothers me and I decided to write this review. The pizza is very good , especially the grandma pizza . Unfortunately the recent order of dinners and a sandwich were not good at all . The Submarine sandwich literally had only 3 thin slices of meat , it was pathetic . There was also an off taste to it . Asked that the Calimari be fried but recieved small amount of rubbery boiled rings floating in a sea of watery marinara and pasta . A 20 dollar dish of chicken was in an oily brown sauce and had the smallest thinnest dried out chicken I'd seen in a long time at any price . The The French Fries were very good and the another pasta dish , while tasty , had disappointing amount of tiny thin pieces of chicken in it . The salad was unappetizing but tasty . I fear there may be new owners or a new chef and I may have to look elswhere for good local...
