The Grounds Pizza Bar Restaurant — Restaurant in Town of Somerset

Considering the high praise this place gets, my expectations going in were pretty high. We went here for the first time for Mother's Day brunch. It started off by them trying to seat us outside in the 20 mph wind in the sun. We declined and they were nice enough to seat us indoors at the bar. Not the best seating in the house, but better than getting a sun burn. The food arrived over an hour after the order was taken. We were informed that the kitchen was backed up. That was an understatement. For the cost of the food, I was expecting a lot more for proportions. $17 for pancakes and they were 2 small thin pancakes. With the exception of our 6 year old, we all left hungry. Overall the experience was pretty bad and it was a horrible first impression. We will not be going back.

EDIT: Now I can see what the delay was. They had nowhere to seat us because all reservations tables were being held up. I would have much preferred that they were upfront with us and told us they only had less ideal seating and food would take much longer. We would have left and went someplace else. They took some amount off our tab, but not nearly enough for the situation. They never offered to bring us free drinks or something simple to nibble on while we waited. We went here for mother’s Day and heard great things about this place and were very excited to try. Unfortunately I think they were not prepared for the holiday business. It took 2 hours for us to get our food. While it was busy it did not seem packed at the restaurant. Capacity continued to dwindle rapidly for the first hour we were there. We did hear them turning away reservations due to the kitchen being backed up. I believe this backup was an understatement. Whether it was a fluke day or not a manger should’ve come around and offered apologies or explanation while we were waiting. We had to buy snacks from the golf clubhouse to tie us over. When we asked how much longer it’d be they finally told us the wait was due to a “dishwasher” issue I feel like this was a poor excuse for a 2 hour wait for food. The waitresses were very nice but the lack of responsibility from the owner left a bad taste...

My wife and I had lunch here for our first time and was excited to try it out after the HUGE and beautiful new clubhouse. We shared a pepperoni pizza and boneless wings. Unfortunately, the wings came out burnt and very hard; we sent them back and the 2nd time around they were much better. The pizza was very dissapointing for being made to order in a brick over style pizza oven. Came out very soggy with way too much sauce and cheese. They need to work on perfecting the right amount of ingredients, as well as bake time.

I'll go back and try some other items, but they've got a long ways to go to continue getting non-golfers to come eat there more than once, especially for the prices. Tons of potential, just...
