My husband and I dined at Wood Lake on a Saturday in July. We made reservations as we knew it would be busy. We waited over 40 minutes past our reservation time to be seated and had a mixed reaction to the food. My husband loved his steak and our friend loved her prime rib. The restaurant was out of my first and second choice so I had the tenderloin salad which was just fine, nothing special. Our other friend remarked that his steak was mediocre at best.
We decided that we needed to give Wood Lake a second chance and chose a Monday evening. We thought that it would be less busy and that we would be able to try some other specials.
The bartender greeted us and we were informed that the tap beers were out of service. No big deal, we ordered other drinks and asked for menus. After waiting for a considerably long time, my husband got up and got us menus from the hostess stand. A customer at the bar alerted us that there was a special Monday menu, but the bartender never really came back to us. She had her regular customers and concentrated on them.
We finally asked if we could sit at a table, thinking that we would have better luck with a waitress in getting another drink and our questions about the specials answered. We were told to simply walk into the dining room and sit wherever we wanted.
Our party of three took our menus and sat at a table. The vibe in the dining room was worse than the one in the bar. We watched, waited and listened to the other tables as two waitresses passed our table no less than three times each. We were not acknowledged in any way shape or form. We started asking each other if we should continue waiting or simply call it a night.
Our decision was made after overhearing the table behind us state that they had been waiting forever for their food. We decided to leave and make something at home.
Long story short, if you are a regular patron, continue to enjoy. If you are looking for someplace new, skip Wood Lake. There will be no third time for...
Read moreMy husband and I were visiting my newly found biological family the week of May 20 through the 27th this year. My father made a reservation with and took us all out to your establishment for dinner. While it was more pricey than I liked, the food was good. The service was too, up until the time a waitress came up to us and told us we needed to get finished as they needed our table. Considering what my father ended up paying for that dinner, I found that rude and offensive. While I realize your establishment is small, it’s still not right to rush patrons. I have never had that happen at any eating establishment I have ever been to, ever. We have small establishments where we are from as well, and we are never rushed out. People come to establishments to eat and have a relaxing enjoyable dinner. I discussed this with my mom afterward and she had not been happy about it either. They took us there because they wanted to give us an experience at what they have always thought was an amazing place. My mom was surprised at what happened because they’ve never had that happen there before, and they do go there on a fairly regular basis…I told my parents to please NOT take us there again when we do come back to visit. We came all the way from the Ann Arbor, Michigan area to spend a week there and our visit with them was wonderful, barring our experience at your establishment. Every other establishment they treated us to, no matter how crowded, gave us our bill and told us ( what we are accustomed to hearing) “ no rush, whenever you’re ready”, but here? We got “we need you to finish soon because we need your table”. Rude!! We plan to move out there after I retire from USPS, however I will never patronize your establishment again. That experience turned me off of this...
Read moreThis place is a nice little gem tucked outside of a small town, a great atmosphere with a nice size bar when you first walk in. We made reservations. I dont believe you have to, but I would suggest it just in case. We were seated immediately even though we were about 15 min early, and our waitress came over immediately with menus and took our drink order. I asked about the specials, which she listed off and hubs chose the tomahawk steak, baked potato w sour cream (no vegetables are offered) but u do get choice of soup or salad, we both chose frolench onion soup, which was ok, It comes with rye bread chunks in the soup which I personally don't care for but my hubs did, so that is juat a matter of preference. now that I know I wouldn't order it again. I ordered the tenderloin and lobstertail with baked potato with a side of sour cream. she asked if we would like bread rolls, we said yes, unfortunately though we never rcvd them, My husb order came and was cooked perfectly, baked potato was hot and he rcvd his sour cream. My steak was again cooked perfectly, baked potato was done and hit, but never rcvd any sour cream that I had asked for, the lobster tail was such a huge disappointment, was so over seasoned with I think old bay seasoning that it was barely edible, so salty and overpowering, I tasted no lobster at all, which was really only about 2 bites anyways. Just going forward, I will have to avoid the lobster or ask for no seasoning. overall, we had a good experience and will be back. they did point out the menu prices were not correct that new menus...
