We stayed at the inn for one night in the Austen room.
THE GOOD: The room and bathroom were clean, the TV was a good size, and the selection of teas and coffees was great. We also liked that they had a fridge and microwave. At one point n the evening we realized that our takeout food was missing cutlery, so we called the phone number we were provided and they brought us forks and knives within 10 minutes. We appreciated that very much.
THE FINE: It was a little disorienting to have a completely human-free "check-in" and "check-out" experience but not actually a problem. The bed and pillows were somewhat comfortable, I guess? But only for stomach sleepers because both bed and pillows were suuuuper squishy.
THE NOT SO GOOD: This is an old building and the walls are extremely thin. Noise carries very easily from hallways, outside corridors, and other rooms. It was quite difficult to fall asleep at night due to the people upstairs walking around. They weren't thumping or being extra noisy, it was just normal walking but their floor and thus our ceiling creaked loudly. The worst was the door to our room. I'm not sure if you notice in the photos but there is a huge gap under the door AND a pretty large gap along the side of the door where it should shut tight against the frame. The door was also extremely thin and beaten up, which left us feeling unsafe all night along (even though we had the chain on). I am not at all an anxious person in general, in fact I'm always accused of being a little too blithe about safety, but this door gave ME the willies. Oh, and the door was one big reason why there was so much noise filtering into our room from the communal hallway right outside. We clearly heard every single person who left or entered the building, kids waiting for their parents in that hallway kept knocking on our door for fun, etc etc etc. Those big door gaps absolutely needs...
Read moreYou walk up to such a cute and cozy inn. We noticed fires surrounding the property with benches. After dinner we used their free smores bar to sit around the fire. Which was such a fun and kind touch. But the ambience in this place was so rustic and well done. There was a musician playing an acoustic set at the perfect volume. We were here for a friend's birthday and had a party of 8. We were seated exactly on time and water and menus were already on the table. Our waitress immediately greeted us and took drink orders which were all great. We then got a few split apps they were all good and portions were what we expected. For entrees we got burgers, steaks, and the cod. The burgers were perfect and well priced. The steak was also a very reasonable price and well portioned, the sweet potato side for it was so so good. The cod was the only dish that was just fine. The service was well timed and our waitress attentive. After dinner we went to the bar for drinks and chatted with the owner who gave us a kind discount on a birthday round as well as a free dessert- a cheesecake which was delicious. Overall a great experience I would definitely recommend for a cozy and...
Read moreThis place is an absolute gem, yet to be discovered by the masses. We went for Happy Hour on a Friday evening and decided to enjoy our drinks outside. We hadn’t even sat down and they built a fire for us over by the water (one was already going up by the lawn). We were so happy with the vibe of everything we decided to order some burgers and another round of drinks. Burgers were a little more medium to medium-well than medium rare but still good and the fries were excellent. The staff are still getting comfortable with things but are clearly making every effort and the service is wonderful. I can’t wait until they’re open throughout the week.
Whether you’re visiting the area or live here, you need to stop by the Boom...
