The Hidden Inn was a GREAT place to stay and the food—well, I’ve never had better prime rib or filet steak. The King Suite had a lovely view and was extremely comfortable and clean. And the streaming TV was very welcome (the inn we stayed at in New Hampshire a few weeks ago not only had no streaming, they had put hardware in the HDMI ports so you couldn’t hook up your own device).
But back to the food. The vegetables were crisp and the garlic had flavor. You can just tell when veg has NOT sat on a truck for days. There’s a reason the dining room was full on Friday and Saturday nights.
I gave the location 4 instead of 5 stars only because, if you want to go anywhere for breakfast or lunch, you’ve pretty much got to get back in the car and head for Stamford, 15 minutes away. The Inn does provide cereals and a toaster and coffee in a common room, and these are fine. But folks determined to have a holiday blessedly free of having to cook or shop may want to make different plans than we did. The Catskills generally doesn’t have enough housing to serve the needs of the staff that places like The Hidden Inn need to hire.
The staff was very friendly. The owner was helpful the moment we stepped...
Read moreFabulous restaurant - I ate there twice and totally enjoyed it. The rooms and bathrooms are beautifully refurbished, but evaluate your needs carefully before booking. My room was on the top (3rd) floor; there is no elevator. Room #8 is quite small (sloping ceilings, a big dresser with 9 drawers, a very tall queen bed with more drawers underneath it--I didn't need all this storage space for a 3-night stay). I am petite and found it difficult to get into the tall bed, even when the owner kindly supplied a step stool. The lack of a chair in the room was an issue for me, as there are no public areas to sit except for the breakfast area on the 2nd floor, which has two tables.
The details of the room and lack of public space were not clear to me from the website photos. I'm used to having a living room/public space in B&Bs of this vintage, but the whole main floor is the restaurant.
Re breakfast: there's a Keurig machine, packaged rolls, fresh fruit, cereal boxes. I brought my own food and milk along since I wasn't sure what I'd find (website doesn't specify). I was in the area for a weekend conference and am not sure I'd stay here again (the larger rooms are more pricey), but I'd definitely...
Read moreWe dined here last night for the first time since its reopening. Everything about it was wonderful. Lovely ambience, great service and fantastic food. The prime rib was superb. Perfectly seasoned and cooked just as we’d requested (med rare). We ordered the king cut and paired it with a Canadian cold water lobster tail, which was also perfectly cooked (nothing can mess up lobster like overcooking it). We began with the crab cake salad remoulade. Excellent crab cake. I’m picky about my crab cakes. Don’t like a lot of filler. Theirs was great. They had some great specials, and they also have vegetarian options. Solid wine & drink offerings. The dessert menu was limited, but the chocolate creme brûlée was great. Lovely bar/pub, where they also serve food (different menu). We plan on trying that next. It’s my new favorite restaurant. Going to be...
