Nice place with friendly service. We were greeted and seated quickly. Diane had the BBQ sandwich with sliced brisket and sweet potato fries. The brisket was nice and tender, and the fries were hot and crispy. I had the BBQ melt with chopped brisket, Swiss and American cheese on Texas toast. The first version came out on burnt toast and had leftover burnt pieces of brisket that were dry and un edible. The server agreed that it was bad and quickly had them redo it. The manager then came by and apologized and brought me the new sandwich. Very good handling of the issue. The new sandwich was perfectly cooked toast and juicy, tender brisket. Awesome. When we received our check, I noticed that there was a $2 upcharge on each sandwich for choosing brisket. I was taken by surprise because the menu only shows and upcherge for the plates, but the sandwiches say you can choose any meat and list the price. The manager tried to explain that it's a $2 upcharge on ANY item on the menu. I suggested they make that clear on the menu, and she removed the charges. The manager handled everything without big arguments and with a pleasant attitude. Overall, highly recommended two thumbs-up 👍 👌 a place on the water, as we usually do, we found this place with good reviews. Upon arriving, we asked for a seat outside on the patio and was told it was closed, so we took a seat by the window in the bar because the dining room was also not available. As we sat down, we noticed there were people on the patio around the fire pit who just had drinks, and we just figured they were not getting served. The very next folks that came in were seated on the patio and given menus, and also, the dining room was suddenly open. That was rude and very irritating. Now that the host is handled, the rest was good. Diane chose the combo platter from the specials. One piece of walleye, one piece of beer battered cod, one skewer of grilled shrimp, fried clams strips, coleslaw, and bread. Everything was cooked just right with minimal breading. The shrimp had a mild flavorful seasoning and was very tasty. I had the fried Walleye that was, again, done right and very tasty. Each came with a cup of clam chowder that was ok. It seemed to be made with cream of chicken soup, but since I'm a fan of that, I enjoyed it. The coleslaw was a disappointment as it was just mush. About the consistency of apple butter. If the host had not started us off with a bad experience, we may have enjoyed it even more, but overall, the rest of the service and the food were good. Recommended two...
Read moreIt has been a long time since we visited, and we quickly figured out why. From walking in and having the hostess be less than helpful, we went out to the outside patio. We waited 15 minutes before anyone came to give us menus or take a drink order. Our server was nice, but it seems like there is a great need for training the entire staff. Things seemed very haphazard if not a bit chaotic.
My wife and I both ordered the perch. It came with a choice of potato and soup or salad. We both chose the French Onion soup. Our next indication that things were not going well was when our server brought out our meals. We hadn't even got our soups. We said we didn't want them anymore since our food was delivered first. She seemed confused and didn't see the issue. In addition to the lack of training, there do not seem to be any systems in place to coordinate the servers. After we got our meals we saw another server walking around aimlessly with a full tray of food that didn't seem to have a home. We then saw a nearby table get their meals and salads at the same time. They seemed as shocked as we were when we didn't get our soup. The table next to us ordered some drinks, soup and fries. After a long wait they asked for their bill and said they no longer wanted the fries since it had been so long. The server, oblivious to the issue said the fries were ready and she'd bring them out. They said they didn't want them any longer, but they showed up anyway.
As for the food... the perch was way too bone filled for our taste and not all that hot. The coleslaw looked like it had been pureed. When the single piece of rye bread was maybe the best thing on the plate, you know you are in trouble. My wife did say the baked potato was good (pretty hard to screw one of those up).
There is so much potential with location and outdoor seating and bar. The biggest issue was the dueling music between the main building and the outside bar. You'd think it would be better to sync them up, but even that was too hard. All in all, too bad this place just seems to be managed and run poorly.
There are a lot of better options...
Read moreBeen here twice in the past 2 months. Our first experience was less then great. We went in and stood at the front for a bit before someone sitting at the bar (we thought she was a customer) came and sat us. Then we waited about 10 min before our waitress came. However, we were sat by the window and had a great view, so it wasn't a big deal. Our hummus tray appetizer was great, but was also the highlight of the meal. My wifes soup was extremely salty. I had tenderloin which was very overcooked and my wifes coconut shrimp was very dark and oily. We also didn't see our waitress after she brought our food until after we were done, so we never got a second drink. It's definitely a place where locals go and we could hear our waitress talking to lots of people on the bar side, so unfortunately we didn't get the attention. We always drive pass the place and it's always busy, so we tried to give it another go this week. Once again, we walked in and stood at an empty hostess stand for a while until the lady sitting at the bar came and sat us. We ordered 2 old fashioneds and they came quick. However, my old fashioned had 2 GIANT FRUIT FLIES IN IT. Once again, we could hear our server talking to people on the bar side, but had to wait about 15 min for her to come back. I politely asked for another drink and when I pointed out the flies she thought it was just the funniest thing. I was brought another drink and we moved on. This time I ordered boneless wings and my wife ordered a burger. My wings were pretty good but the burger was well-well done. As in, black and crusty. We once again didn't see our waitress (but heard her) until well after we were done eating. So with 2 chances, there are some themes here. If you're not a local sitting on the barside, you won't get much attention. They seem to have a cook issue as the food was poorly executed in both instances. I'm very concerned about the hygiene if there are fruit flies in the beverages. It's too bad, but in this case, 2 strikes was enough for us not...
