Easily one of our worst dining experiences ever. We walk in and awkardly we stand at what appears to be a check in booth. We stood there for about five minutes while the hostess ran around unorganized doing things and asking us to keep waiting. Finally she gets to us and we are seated. The shape where the booths are look like it used to be a brothel house unless they designed it structurally to look that way on purpose for some reason. After a few minutes the waitress comes and takes her order very rushed and the place was very noisy so we had to keep repeating ourselves. She wasn't too polite. Not like the places we are used to. Not to sound mean but appearance does play a role when you're working for tips. This lady had one foot in the grave but was painted up like a white trash bar skank. If you're going to be rude when working for tips at least don't look like a 90 year old Paris Hilton.
I sent a text right after we ordered and by the time our food finally arrived it had been 42 minutes. They gave us a cornbread that was made from a Betty Crocker mix and was so dry. They gave some moldy bread that smelled like paint. Not going to lie I even had to Google it to find out what kind of bread smells like paint and has green specs in it. The results I got were 'rotten bread'.
She sets the food down and I had ordered the fish fry and he had ordered the walleye. I crack open a piece of fish and it was so dried out from being frozen. The fish fry that we normally go to is fresh and fast and cheap and unlimited. This place took nearly an hour to even receive the food was dry and flavorless and disgusting not all you can eat and more expensive. The place we usually go to gives you soup or salad. Fresh bread that doesn't have mold on it. A potato Choice a vegetable choice and fresh endless fish in a batter that is edible (I picked all the "breading" off at barleys) and then you get a dessert all for cheaper than this place. Plus you get friendly staff and fast service.
The waitress came over and asked how it was and we said we weren't impressed and she copped an attitude and came back and threw the check on the table and said "bring this up front to pay" and then walked away
Anyone that leaves a good review for this location obviously needs to get out more. I would not even recommend this...
Read moreWe frequent Barleys whenever we meet up with another couple as it’s our halfway spot. We always have the same waitress (and she’s AMAZING) This particular visit was rather disturbing as the owner was extremely vocal about our returning an item that wasn’t the usual great product. I don’t want to bash the item, it just wasn’t good. If you’re out of an item, just say it’s not available. Don’t make something, douse it with salt and say this is better and expect your customer to accept it. We didn’t like it, so we sent it back. He literally YELLED from the bar/kitchen so we could all hear that we were basically ridiculous. He was embarrassing himself, and quite frankly not sure we wanna return. We’ve been coming to Barleys for over 20+ years! Not how you treat customers that spend over $100 a visit that’s for sure. There were other issues with the food but he made us almost afraid to speak up....
Read moreWinner winner Reuben dinner!!!🥳🥳 5 stars! What am I thinking. 🤔
I've been here three times over the last 6 months. I'm not sure why it's only got a 4.4. Barley's is consistently good, and consistently delivers. If you don't live down the street it's worth the drive.
I've been on a mission to find an excellent Reuben and I'm going to hang my hat on this one. Why I waited so long to try it here - I couldn't tell you.
But it's not just the Reuben, Barley's is understated and unpretentious. Quaint little bar/restaurants often take themselves too seriously. Here though - booth ambience is nice, open tables are available and rich with good ol fashioned SE Wisconsin life conversations. The staff is genuine - courteous and attentive.
I highly recommend the Reuben of course, but also the Garibaldi or any sandwich - fish fry is pretty onpoint too. Soon, I will be back to try an...
