The Shopiere Tap — Restaurant in Town of Turtle

After staying the night in Chicago, we wanted to grab something to eat on our way home to central Wisconsin. I jumped on Google Maps and looked for something around Beloit and fairly close to the Interstate. This place had awesome reviews, especially for their fish fry. So I set Waze to their location and we arrived right around noon. We were surprised it wasn't too busy... yet! Our waitress, Tiffany, was very pleasant and answered all our questions about the menu. I ordered the Bluegill and a cup of their clam chowder, and Christi ordered the Black and Blue Ranch Wrap, minus the mushrooms. The Bluegill was cooked perfectly, with a nice light breading, not greasy at all. The clam chowder was thick and very good! And I loved the tots! Christi really enjoyed the wrap, taking half of it home for lunch the next day. The food came out quickly and very hot. Tiffany was awesome. Very attentive and delightful. Their fish fry (Wednesday, Friday) is so good; they've been rated as one of the best fish fry placed in the area! Seriously, when you look at a piece of walleye straddling your plate, or a pile of cod; then the potato pancakes, or fries (waffle or straight), coleslaw, .... Of course you're going to need a good beer to go with that!

– Did I mention the other food was good too?! Well it is! In the mood for a good burger? They've got you covered there as well! Pick up a basket (or two) of appetizers for the table!!

Pop in sometime, you may have a wait time; but it's really worth it... So maybe grab a drink from the bar while you're waiting for the next table! Maybe a glass of; New Glarus - Spotted Cow? A beautiful beer. Only available in Wisconsin!

They've remodeled the place a bit on the last couple years to accommodate more people. Tell them your name, and grab a pager. Your table will be up soon!

It's Friday and the fish is good, the service is friendly and the music wasn't blaring. We got there at 11am, opening, and had the whole back patio to ourselves. A lovely time was had and we will be back. Why not 5 stars? That's just me being mean because I've lived in Australia, a country that's all about fish and chips and the Craigie (a suburb of Perth) Fish and Chip shop is still the best on the planet. One other thing: do NOT order a Long Island Ice Tea here at the Shopiere Tap. They seem to think it's a cola drink and not the venerable cocktail it's supposed to be. It was terrible.
