The Kitchen Buffet at Vernon Downs — Restaurant in Town of Vernon

Ill start with the positive. The staff were great. Friendly, welcoming, and accommodating. Now to the negative, the buffet, or lack of was just sad especially for a casino. This place is about 15 mins from Turning stone casino that actually has a buffet with plenty of options. ended up coming here because TS was at capacity for their buffet that night. Coming here, was a huge mistake. Although i was told previously their buffet was horrible, I wanted to experience it for myself just to see how bad... I should have listened. And to think, my wife's review came from several years ago when she went. With the new banner outside in the parking lot that displayed "The buffet is back!" Strong feelings and questions emerged as I went inside.. "WHY, and What was it like before???"if this truly sad display of food was your buffet, why in the H@#% did you bring this back?? And what did this look like before you did?? None of the food had any flavor, for the customers that actually sat down and was eating this, clearly have no standards or tastebuds. They had mashed potatoes, the gravy next to it looked like old chocolate pudding, just about the only things semi worth eating were the deep fried zucchini and i guess the macaroni and cheese only because it came out fresh. For dessert, there was some mystery brownie cake, or ice cream which wasnt even sanitary. You had to scoop your own ice cream in a 2 gallon container. Meanwhile you have no idea if the last person scraped their arm on the inside of the container grabbing their ice cream in the process, you could be putting that, in your bowl....yea Im good thanks! Other than that, extremely limited options and wasnt worth it. This place reminded me of an old outaded bingo hall with a banquet room. Good luck if this review hasnt deterred you to run like hell away from this place. You will have more variety and a better meal at Golden Corral, hell even a truck stop. 9/2/2024-Service by Kayla EXCELLENT * as usual. Despite always being short handed, Kayla as normal for her, she gave each of our party of 7 hr personal attention. Kayla is one of the main reasons a brought these new patrons to Vernon.👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾 The restaurant was extremely busy and extremely short handed. In my opinion Kayla is a MVP for the Vernon Buffet and hopefully gets treated that way. The Buffet badly needs more like her and someone to clear tables again.

At times there were lots of un cleared tables with mobs of people coming in with no place to sit. Also the great cashier that was there for a long time was not there and the one cashier cannot possibly keep up with the lines.

Good people leave when working conditions are terrible like here and don't improve.

Went to the mother's day buffet. When we got there we had to make reservations. So we did so we went to the bar then went and played the slot machines till are reservation time came up so we went back to the buffet and we still had to wait in line even though we had reservations which made no sense. And the food was not all that good it was cold and they did not have such a big selection neither and the dessert was not all that great neither. Definitely will not go back there.

Well I am going to go back to the Kitchen Buffet for the memorial day buffet. Hopefully it is better than the mother's day buffet. Well least you don't have to make a reservation this time.
