Bee Hive Barn & Grill — Restaurant in Town of Vinland

The food was great, make no mistake, but our server clearly had more to worry about than her tables. It wasn't terribly busy... we were able to walk in and sit down at a table right away. It was about 30 minutes after we sat down that we were brought menus and asked what we would like to drink. About 40 minutes after sitting down we finally had our drinks (one beer and two sodas). Delivery time on the food was good. Our server came to check on us twice, and on both stops all three of us had empty glasses. She didn't ask if we wanted refills or suggest them. On her third check in on us, I finally asked her for a refill. After waiting for it for 20 minutes, I decided it was time to leave.

I went up to the bar asked the manager to close out our table. I pointed out on the bill that of the two beers I was charged for, only one ever actually came to my table. She offered to remove them both, which was more refreshing than the actual dining service. When I made it back to my table (after I had already closed out the bill), the beer I had asked for (now) 25 minutes prior, was finally there. I left it there without touching it and we went on our merry way. Yes, I did still leave a tip.

A group of 3 of us went on Thursday night and were able to find a table on the patio immediately. There was live music which was really nice. We were greeted by our waitress within 5 minutes of sitting down. The feta apple grilled chicken wrap was delicious, and my friend said her Reuben was also delicious. However, our service was abysmal...our waitress only came to our table 3 times during the 4 hours we were there. Our drinks came 30 minutes into us sitting, we had to request water which came an hour into our meal. We had to ask another staff member to bring our bill because we had been there 3 hours and our waitress never stopped back. They then ran my friends card for all of our meals and I was charged for the salad dressing that came with my side salad. It was only 50 cents and with the fact that it was not our waitress that brought our bill we simply paid our friend. Our waitress came back 3 hours and 45 minutes into us sitting there, after we paid the bill to ask if we would like our second drink or if we needed to close out. So recommend for the food and atmosphere and hope for a better waitress than ours. I would come back for the wrap and the outdoor...

We enjoyed our time with you all yesterday. Food wait time was a little long, but thanks for being up front about it right away. My only complaint is this... when we got our bill, the "suggested tip amounts were 20%, 25% and 30%! Come on now, that's just greedy! As a guy who worked for tips for many years, the norm was always 5% = you did bad, 10% = you did your job, and 15% = you were AWESOME! Pay your servers more, but don't force nearly a 3rd of the bill to be added on so they can survive! I get it, times have changed, but so have foodt/drink costs, but proportionally 15% from 20 years ago, is exactly the same as today! A s a business owner myself, my rates are 15%, 18% and 20%. (I feel this is more appropriate.)

Our servers were friendly, they were busy, and at times we were a little neglected. I'm not upset by it, given the volume of people that were there, but we also weren't given "awesome servive", so to ask for 30% just rubs me...
