My boyfriend and I went on a Saturday right when they opened and we had a blast. Our server was knowledgeable with the wines and overall a great guy to have a conversation with. He told us about other local businesses to visit such as Yoder’s Bakery (an Amish bakery down the road from the winery) and how the winery came to be. We met the owner of the winery and their dog mascot/manager. Their wine selection ranged from Dry to Sweet and it had a selection of ciders and locally crafted beer near Shawno, WI. The pricing was very reasonable ($6 for a flight of five wines and you keep the glass, and $6 for a glass of wine or cider). Their wine bottles ranged from $15-16 and they had an ice wine for $40/bottle; it was a full bottle not a little dessert bottle of wine. The atmosphere was friendly and they allowed kids to come in as well (they have twigs soda for them to enjoy). I also liked how they sold their own apples and other locally produced foods/cheese in their store. It was a community farm to table feel which I appreciate. Overall, I highly recommend anyone who wants to try locally made wine to visit Hammen’s...
Read moreEvery year for as long as I remember, some 55 years or so, I have made at least one trip to Shawano County. My grandparents had lake property and even after they passed, I could not stop the attraction from dragging me north. This year, with Covid 19 and the travel time frame of July 4th weekend, we had to get creative with activities. During a field trip to find the Amish bakery, Yoder's, we drove by (and I do mean we drive by) the Winery. I turned around and decided to poke my head inside. I asked the hours for Saturday the 4th and told them I hoped to convince a group to come for a tasting.
Turned out we could not get a rental boat for Saturday so off we went to the Winery. It looks a bit dinky but otherwise intriguing. Once in we were warmly greeted by the staff and owners. The tasting room was delightful. The wines were unique and tasty. My entire group found something that appealed to their taste buds and prices were reasonable. I loved the raspberry mead. We are looking forward to coming back during harvest season. If you find yourself in the area with a little time to burn, I highly...
Read moreThis winery we had visited a couple weeks ago... My honest review: I THOUGHT the staff was friendly and welcoming. The environment left more to be desired; there were ample flies and it was not an intimate setting, if that's what you're looking for. The wine was 'ok' at best, nothing I'd buy personally, as I've enjoyed much better. But in all honesty, the one star review comes in response to how this owner handles one star reviews. We attended the winery over a week before Mr. Kirk was murdered (RIP, Charlie). We were deeply saddened by his death and in that breath, the winery owner's response is absolutely disgusting. He suggested reviews (of my husband and another member in our party) were one star because of a political issue with his hat in regards to the tragic event that happened a week AFTER we were there. Try to make a political issue - and a lie, to boot - is to be a part of the problem. This establishment has lost all respect. Please do better. I'd also HIGHLY recommend 'Forgotten Fire' winery in Peshtigo. Lovely establishment and can handle...
