Let me start by saying the food was really good (a 4/5). Unfortunately, our experience we really bad (1/5) - Maybe we visited on an ‘off’ day. Visited on 7/16 about 1 pm. We decided to go there because their website listed street tacos. Unfortunately, their menu inside is not representative of their website :( Maybe 1/3 or the tables were full. 1 person in line ahead of us. We ordered a pulled pork plate and a brisket plate (not a big menu). We took our number and sat down outside. 15 minutes later, 2 staff members start walking around to all the tables telling people they are out of brisket (seemed strange at 1:30 in the afternoon when all that’s on the menu is pulled pork and brisket), but ok -we say we’ll substitute brisket for pulled pork. (FYI, brisket is $4 more than pulled pork, but they never said anything about a refund or adding additional to make up the cost difference). Then we start seeing people who ordered after us getting their food. By now, we’re there for 30 min, still no food. No updates or sense of urgency from the staff. So we go in to see what’s going on, by now there are multiple people who are in the same situation as us. They tell us they’re ‘swamped’, but no one waiting in line and still 1/3 of tables filled. I flagged down who I think was an owner. She didn’t understand why we hadn’t gotten our food , but did take care of having it made up in a few minutes. They ‘upgraded’ us to fries from chips (but didn’t tell us) which was also odd because fries weren’t on the menu and what if we didn’t want fries? She also told us to grab whatever drinks we wanted from the cooler. There was no help wanted sign outside, so I don’t think this was a staff shortage. The food business is not an easy one - customer service is just as important as the food. unfortunately we won’t be back since it didn’t seem like our...
Read moreSmall grill on Washington Island. We arrived for lunch after few trekking under the sun looking for somewhere to get some energy back. It was Sunday of the 4 Jul weekend and tons of people were looking for the same there throughout the whole island (this was the second restaurant we queued in after a 25 minute wait at another place and already sick of lones not moving). We waited in line for about 10 minutes to place our order and provided with a number. About 20 minutes later a different order came to the table, however we did not realize right away, so we started eating it. We then realized that our order was misplaced and inquired to learn more. The owner of the place showed up and in few minutes, straightened things up with great customer care and being supportive of the situation. We understood that it is unusual for a small place like this to maintain a steady rithm during such a busy day, however it was clear that everyone was doing their best, smiling and keeping ul with orders as much as they could. We got offered some of the chef's special fried cheese for the day and that was greatly appreciated.
The place was also offering a couple of vegan option in the menu that makes the place more accessible to everyone.
The selection of meat is wide and the prices...
Read moreWe ordered two half chicken lunch specials. They came severly undercooked and inedible. I showed the server, and he said they would bring two new ones.
The owner came back with two new servings and then proceeded to lecture us about how the chicken wasn't actually undercooked and talked about how bad the server messed up by taking our food back. I BBQ chicken frequently and know what raw looks like (pink translucent meat, this wasn't smoke ring pink).
She told us that they temped the two new pieces of chicken to 190. If they did, it was with an infrared because the new pieces were just as raw as the first underneath the first half inch of meat. We decided to just not eat the chicken and leave.
Everyone else we interacted with on this island was wonderful. Based on the responses to other negative comments from this owner, she is probably going to call me a name and explain it away and say I don't know what I'm talking about.
If you want dangerously undercooked chicken and terrible customer service, this spot is...
