Came here on a Saturday night, and it was not too terribly busy around 5:30. Our party of 5 was able to be seated right away, and the server quickly took our drink order. The menu is pretty varied with burgers, seafood, steak, and other various items. We ordered walleye and ribeye steaks. Took about 15 to 20 minutes to get the food, and everything was cooked perfectly. The walleye was delicious. Perfectly pan seared with a light breading and a nice hint of butter. The steak was really good as well. It was cooked medium rare exactly as ordered and had great flavor! Overall, a great experience at The Loading Zone. Friendly staff, good service, and a fun atmosphere. Definitely a great place for a family supper!

The fish, fries and burger tasted like camp food. If I had a blind bite of the fish I would believe it was boxed fish sticks. The burger was SO charred and dry. The French fries looked great but tasted like the breading for onion rings with no onion inside, they didn’t taste like potato at all and when bit open you couldn’t see potato. The staff was not at all rude, but we were worked through like cattle at auction. HOWEVER, the cheesecake was absolutely awesome! We ordered multiple slices of the caramel apple and will probably stop by for cheesecake to go in the future. There happened to be a hair in my coleslaw, didn’t really bother me I’m a farm girl. I picked it off and ate it. lol

I really enjoy coming here. Their food has been great every visit. The process of being seated and ordering your food is a little unusual here, but it works wonderfully. When you first arrive, you tell the bartender how many people in your group. The bartender gives you a number to place on the bar or table you temporarily sit. The waitress takes your order and you sit and enjoy a drink or two while your table and first course is prepared. Once the table and first course is ready, they will come get you to have a seat. It works very efficiently.

Came here for the Friday night fish fry based on other reviews and recommendations, but probably won't be back. Confusing layout (is it a bar? Or a restaurant? And where is the customer entrance sign?), impersonal bartenders and snippy wait staff. Frosted draft beer mugs had ice cubes in them. As a big fan of Wisconsin beers, I hate to have one that's watered down. Typical Bud/Miller/Coors, not much variety.

Super weird way of ordering food... You get in line, pick up a menu, order at the counter, get a number, and have to wait in the bar area for your number to be called. When your number is called, you go back to the counter, and then you can sit in the dining area, but you have to go to a table not with the number you were given, but a different one that you have been assigned to. The waitress gives you your food here, and when you're done will ask if you'd like dessert (with no dessert listed on the menu way back when you were first starting this adventure), and hands you your bill. You then bring it up to the counter to pay. So the question becomes: do you tip the waitress that brought your food that you've been waiting 30 mins for, or do you tip the person at the counter that you've seen three (four, if you ordered an appetizer) times, now?

Food was okay, but not notable enough to go out of the way for. Overall, seems really popular with the regulars but is really deterring...

My husband and I were visiting Wausau, WI and stopped in based on the reviews. We were not disappointed! Its a friendly little bar that is exactly what you want visiting Wisconsin. You walk in and order your food- you sit at the bar and chat while waiting for your food. They put your food at a table and send you over to eat. Everything was wonderful, fresh and fun. Appetizers were cheap but we had so much food that we didn't need to order them. The fried mushrooms and clams were perfect. We ordered the fried and baked cod combo and the 4 piece chicken. It was fantastic and came with 2 sides- we tried all of their potatoes- 2 types of potato salad, fries and the baked potato. We were not able to finish our food there was so much to eat. Staff works together as a team on Fridays and splits the tips- so they were very attentive, helpful and friendly. Everything was under $40 which is amazing... Highly recommend. If you want something healthier, absolutely get the baked cod and baked potato... if you're there for everything fried- they do not disappoint. Great Wisconsin immersion...

Went to this place because of the hype on Google saying it's been the best in Wausau for a fish fry for years... First the good: Place is big, was full but still found somewhere to sit at the bar, people were wonderful and friendly. Now for the other stuff: Process for getting a meal, weird! You go up to the hostess who gives you a number and takes your full order. If you order appetizers, your number is called and you take them back to wherever...then your number is called again when your meal is done. You go sit at the table they tell you. Your food, silverware and a glass of water are already there. Weird. Food was still warm, but overall axed seasoning on the deep fried fish and the sides. Not sure if the kitchen can't keep up, this is covid changes, or not enough help, but the dining room was typically half filled and atleast 10-15 people with numbers waiting on food. Odd. I'd probably try it again, but somewhat out of town, so not sure I...
