Tony is a pen name; way back then I was a part of the Kilbury klan. I remember many summers, and winter, visits to "The Point" staying at the caretaker's cottage, then the position was Guyana Carrie Kilbury, my mother Harriet, Ruez and Evelyn ... and families. A few of my best memories included striking out by row boat to get as close as possible to hear big bands at Laf-A-Lot way back in mid-to-late 1940's. to this day I haven't experienced more relaxing times at a resort lake with premier entertainment. Even in winter when Grampa Guy made trips to the Point to check for needed repairs. Nothing could challenge the beauty white snow; trees, ground and lake. And can't forget the school turned into Woodcroftery.
IM 74 this year, living in Texas remembering the mysteries and wonders of Wayland. In late 1990's I needed birth certificate for passport. I called city records office expressing my need. "What year and who are you?" I think the young-sounding voice I think she was Mary. Sadly my memory is not as good as her's.
Mary's smile followed, "Are you Harriet Merrill's little buy Richard?" I doubt Mary and my mother, the parents Guy and Carrie talked in decades, an I know Mary never heard my voice in 50 years. She shared so many tales of Guy on Loon Lake.
From your website, and general map, I see you are all maintaining another of NY's great...
Read moreI have had drinks/eaten there quite a few times. Last night a group of us went out for wing night. We decided to sit outside. That was a mistake because it was absolutely filthy out there. There were huge spiders hanging all over the side of the building mere feet from where we were sitting with spider webs everywhere loaded with dead insects, vines growing down the side of the building, weeds growing in the cracks in the cement and the deck looked like it hadn't been swept in a very long time. The waitress didn't clean off the table for us and the whole time she bitterly complained about how she hates working wing night because it is a complete disaster. She told this to every table. It was busy and we waited an hour to get our wings. The wings were excellent. I suggest getting someone to clean the outside of the building get rid of the spiders and webs, sweep the deck, pull the weeds out and find nice friendly waitresses that...
Read moreUnfortunately 1 star is even to high. Every year my father and I take the motorcycles out on fathers day and go for a long ride. This year was no different until we ate at Laf-A-Lot. We ordered burgers and fries typical bar/restaurant food. Both ordered our burgers were ordered medium. After a hefty wait time food came and looked great. My father bit into his burger and it was rare. Really rare! So i bit into mine and instantly i could taste blood in my mouth. Looked down and there was blood dripping out of the burger and the bun was soaked red! The waitress came over and instantly exchanged our burgers. The next burgers weren't much better. So i decided to eat my fries.... yeah it got worse. There was a fly in my pile of fries that was rather on the crispy side. So either it was in the oil or on the fries before they were dropped in the frier. Im 31 years old and by far this has to be the worst experience i have ever had at...
