The people were friendly for sure. It's a very nice location if you have decent weather. Beyond that, the only reason to go here is because there isn't any other option. He had dinner, asked for a water with lemon and a coke. The lemon had mold on it.
Got poutine and it came with the gravy but they forgot the cheese curds.
The lasagna was partially hot and child at the same time. Seemingly as if it were microwaved and then stuck under a broiler for a minute or two to melt the top cheese.
We also had sea bass which was passable, but with a side of broccoli which my wife immediately compared to the frozen bits you buy at a Costco.
The bread that came with it was ok, but it was two small pieces each and certainly doesn't offset the other issues with the food.
They also have a large, friendly, dog that is allowed to freely wander around the dining room and outside deck area. Personally we don't have issues with dogs, but some people do, and if you do... Forget this place.
He will come directly up to you table multiple times and look for food. We weren't bothered much as he came over 3 or 4 times and more it less ignored him and he went to the other take that had diners. Since they either feed him once or simply because they paid attention to him, he tried various types of begging. Including putting his head on the table, staring at the food or diner, pawing gently at the man's arm and sitting.
If probably suggest to anyone I know to bring your own food if you will be in the area, and I'd just drive out of the area rather than go again. The food was less than the 2 stars I gave it... And most places would comp you an appetizer or something for having brought anything moldy to your table... But not here.
It's bar food and I get that. But it's bad bar food and for lasagna, sea bass, one appetizer and a soda, I think it's overpriced at $70.
I still tipped $20. Because the server was nice and I know COVID cost the workers in that industry a lot of income. But the place itself... We were ultimately upset we are there.
Ps. I saw a for sale sign outside. So it may be for sale and if it changes hands it has the potential to be much better. In fact, my wife said on the drive out that it would make a great location for Gordon Ramsay's kitchen nightmares to do an episode. But until something changes, avoid it unless you...
Read moreMy partner and I had heard nice things about this place but when we went, it was a completely different story. A very nice waitress Jess began helping us before a very rude lady came over and practically snatched the menus out of our hands telling us they had switched to dinner. She sent the server away telling Jess she would help us instead. She had no idea what drinks we had ordered and never came to tell us if the food we wanted was available and just put in an order. Before our food came she was mumbling about the table being reserved for another couple and we would need to move but lucky for us it was 4:15 and they weren't coming till 6... Why she even brought it up I don't know... very unprofessional. She never checked in to see how our meal were or offered refills. But she wasted no time chatting with people who seemed like "regulars". I guess new customers aren't worth the conversation. We pulled Jess aside and asked her who the owners were as we wanted to say something about how rude this woman had been to her as well as the complete lacking of customer service. It turns out the rude woman WAS the owner. We can see why it is for sale. The owners hearts are just not into it anymore. There was also a huge dog walking in and out of the kitchen and coming up to tables. After we finished eating we sat there for over 15 minutes with no sign of the owner. Jess had been doing her job and helping others and saw us sitting there idly and went to get our server/owner. When the owner came over she seemed annoyed saying Jess had informed her we didn't want dessert and were ready to leave. She told us how the dessert was homemade and wasn't happy when we reaffirmed we were ready to leave. Partially due to the fact the whole meal was awkward and uncomfortable because of her attitude. The portions were tiny for the price, one app, two drinks, a cheeseburger and a BLT cost 70 dollars! We felt very sorry for Jess as she was great but we will not...
Read moreThe Stillwater Hotel is a rustic spot ideal for those looking to get away from it all. The location is beautiful, tucked away in the woods right on the Stillwater Reservoir. The peace and quiet and sun on the water, along with the host of hummingbirds lend the hotel an enchanted feel. The staff are personable and will go out of their way to ensure their guests have a good time, whether dining in the restaurant, drinking at the bar, or staying in the hotel. The food was quite good overall, ranging from average for some items to superb for others.
The reason the Stillwater Hotel gets 4 stars rather than 5 is that, despite its charms, it is lacking in some basic areas. First, it lacks some amenities like hair dryers and irons. Second, while the accommodations are meant to be rustic, in some areas they feel neglected and run down. The rooms and house were probably last decorated in the 1970s and haven't been updated. Strangely, one of the chairs in the house was broken and poorly repaired with duct tape, and ruined one of the guests' pants when she sat on it. The WiFi, while functional in the restaurant, doesn't reach the guest rooms. The TV in our room, while hooked up with DirectTV and powered on, wasn't set up to work. Finally, the restaurant service, while friendly and welcoming, is sometimes inattentive, leaving guests to track down servers for basics like coffee at breakfast or the check.
Overall these are small gripes, but they add up to detract from what could and should be a great experience. The Stillwater Hotel needs to make a few basic fixes and give the accommodations a little TLC to bump the experience up to a 5 star rating. Overall I would recommend it for those who enjoy a rustic experience at a beautiful spot in the Adirondacks, and who don't mind missing out on a few...
