Silver Lake Country Inn — Restaurant in Town of West Bend

Walked in for Friday night fish fry we were told 20 to 25 minutes one hour later I checked to see where we were she said another five minutes or so I kind of interpreted that as a half an hour the place was busy I've eaten there before the food is good to prices are reasonable the service is good once you're seated but they have a huge problem at the front end everybody jokes and laughs that the food is great once you get in the entryway is scary different level floors packed solid with people very hard to maneuver witnessed a man fall over with a cane and another man trip and fall on people way too many people in that place for safety I'm surprised the fire department hasn't checked on it I decided to leave and we decided to go to dohman in Jackson I only live a quarter mile from dohman I'm 21 miles from silver lake I meet at silver lake before I liked it I wanted to change I would not go back on a Friday night they told me that they do take reservations the people that had reservations waited a half an hour once they were there I guess what I'm getting at is if it's going to be that long of a wait tell me it's going to be an hour and I'll make a decision if I want to stay or not the people were pack three deep at the bar not to drink they were waiting for tables there was no place to stand I wanted a drink I waited at the end of the bar the bartender ignored me and I had to move three times cuz it was a waitress station the only way I can get to the bar not at all impressed if your business is that good get a bigger facility or a better hostess that is truthful I'd rather be told we're really overbooked right now it's going to be a minimum of an hour you might want to try...

Very crowded. Loud. Maybe 18 tables and hardly any room to walk. I don't recommend someone coming that's in a wheelchair. Floor was uneven and hard to walk on. Very tight walk ways. Hard not to walk into someone else. Ceiling definitely needed repair. As well as I spilled my water and no one stopped to help at all. Noticed some staff saw and didn't even offer to grab paper towels. Thankfully we had a few napkins there. Which is why I am giving it 2 stars. Wish there were bigger windows a view to the woods or water. But there wasn't. Food - my husband got the fish, he said it was good... I enjoyed the cheese curds, a bit pricy. Rest of the food... was good EXCEPT for the filet mignon... That was DRY & VERY over cooked. Both my daughter & I got it & we were highly disappointed but hungry. Waitress asked if we would like her to do something but I was already over half way done eating it and she was looking to take my whole plate, so I said no. I was surprised that there was nothing taken off the meal though for the overcooked food. Ever eat dry steak? You need a sauce or drink to go with it... Well drinks weren't filled as much as I'd have liked. I drink lots of water and with that, it was hard but having it available when we ran out. Was suprised on The French Onion is not tomatoe base as some assume rather carrot. Was expecting watered down version but came out more on the creamy side which i found out after research is more a german style type french onion. However, was great. Loaded w/cheese and love the crisp side cheese on the crock.

I would agree with the reviews its a smaller place and reservations are very highly recommended. Was sat 5 min after reservation time no big deal. They only take cash/check another suprise. However, i understand. With prices the way they are (super reasonable) the place would need to increase prices to account for the machine rental & percentage per transaction the credit card company gets.

Second suprise was about the 1.50 refills but after later thought actually saved me $. Only got 2 refills. Other places charge $3.50+ for unlimited refills.

By the time the ribs came out was already feeling full. Ordered BBQ but they had a honey dijon option. Ribs fell off the bone and were amazing. Powered through but no room in the stomach for a re-order. Wife got the same except she got the ribs/peel & eat shrimp combo. She wasnt able to power through and had a to go box.

We took cheesecakes to go and it was awesome!(next day after all the food digested a bit).

Definitely will be back....
