We drove here to Eagle Bridge from Texas while our kids were on Christmas break. We stumbled upon Benson’s family restaurant after a trip to the grocery store. This place is a must stop! It’s a quiet place that has a real home town feel to it. The service was OUTSTANDING! During a time when good service is difficult to find, this was a breath of fresh air. We arrived for an early dinner, before 5 p.m. so there was only one young lady attending to 3 or 4 tables including ours. Since we were invited to sit anywhere, people kind of spread out. The restaurant isn’t huge but she was helping customers in all areas of it. All of this done with a smile, casually talking with guests, some new some regulars. She was doing all this while taking orders, checking on guests and greeting arriving guests. The menu had quit a few items to choose from, much more than I had anticipated. We decided on the fried mozzarella cheese sticks as an appetizer mainly because it’s the kids favorite, there were plenty more to choose from. My wife settled on a simple tomato soup (the special of the day) and a grilled cheese sandwich. The kids decided they both wanted spaghetti and meatballs and I decided to get the liver and onions. The appetizer arrived quickly and the kids quickly split the six between them. They both liked that they were different from what they usually get. I don’t know for sure by I believe they were made in house. My wife and I we very impressed when the main dishes arrived. The tomato soup was so delicious, again we believe homemade. The grilled cheese although so simple looked perfect. Not burnt at all, it literally looked perfect, served with chips and a pickle spear just like you would eat at home. The liver and onions were spot on too! Tender and delicious and served with spicy french fries, (my choice over mashed potato's) and cooked carrots. The kids spaghetti and meatballs, perfect. Served with what we believe was homemade sauce over angel hair pasta with 2 large meatballs and some garlic toast. The meatballs must have been delicious because the kids ate those first, rare for my daughter to do, both very happy. Make sure to save room for dessert because there is a whole whiteboard of them! We opted for slices of homemade pie, served warm with of course a scoop of vanilla ice cream. While my daughter opted for a peanut butter jubilee sundae. The apple pie my wife ordered was very good but didn’t hold a candle to the blueberry slice I had! This was truly the best blueberry pie I’ve ever had. The young lady that took our payment was just as pleasant as our server rounding out a wonderful family dinner. I hope if you are ever in the area and in need of a good meal, at a fair price, served with a smile, this is the place. Kudos to all involved...
Read moreBenson's is a great local diner located near Cambridge NY. I went here for the first time on Sunday for breakfast (which they serve all day) and was very happy. You can sit where eve you like when you arrive and service is prompt and courteous. Our waitress Karen was attentive and patient as we had a group eight including two small children. Food is very very good and you get a good size portion. For breakfast I went with the Garbage Omelet and it was DELICIOUS! My daughter went with a strawberry waffle and she loved it. The home-made cream on top was incredible! (Yes, I took some when she wasn't looking.) Definitely not cool whip or something out of a can.
Building is somewhat dated but that didn't matter because the food and the service is great. Prices were reasonable. The omelet was just under $7 and came with two pieces of toast and hash browns that were cooked perfectly. Coffee is very good as well.
I would highly recommend Benson's to anyone looking for small diner with good service and delicious food. Haven't had anything but breakfast at the diner but if it is as good as breakfast...oh man. I will be sure to come back and see for myself.
They also run a small ice cream /dairy bar in a separate building which has tons of flavors to choose from and efficient service as well. There is also a small pirate ship playground here for the...
Read moreI've been to this restaurant twice. The first time i did takeout and everything was fine - the waitress was pleasant, my order was accurate, the food was ready quick, and it tasted okay.
The second time I went with my mom. We both ordered clam chowder, and unfortunately, it was inedible. I couldn't eat it and sent my back and told the waitress that it wasn't good. I've never sent food back like that at any restaurant. My mom, who never wastes food, could barely eat a few bites but she didn't send it back. Our meals afterwards were just okay. When I got the bill, I was surprised to see both soups on the bill. I politely asked for just one soup to be refunded, since I couldn't eat mine. The waitress explained that the owner/manager refused, saying it was just a "personal preference."
That was very disappointing. I wasn't asking for much - only one soup. If they had handled it differently, I might have given them another chance. But because of how it was handled, I...
