My husband and I, along with my elderly father, met my son at Peppinos for dinner on a Friday evening.
The atmosphere was a little bare-bones (my son said he thought the site was formerly a diner) - it was clean, but not fancy. Seating was a little close, but it's a small space.
Service was fine - a little slow, but our waitress was friendly and courteous. He didn't mention it until we were home, but my husband received the wrong meal. (He had ordered veal French - though he said he was happy with the veal parm he did receive. Mistakes happen, and he never said anything, so . . . I have to think that's on him.)
The selection from the bar is a bit disappointing. For an Italian restaurant, I would have liked to have seen more Italian wines that would pair with Italian food.
About the food - THAT made it worth the trip! Everyone enjoyed their meals - everything seemed to be freshly made (which may explain the slowness!) - and delicious! The portions were generous (I had gnocchi greens & beans with sausage - what I brought home was plenty for 2 lunches). I would also add that, while the salad dressings were house-made and delicious, the salad itself was pretty basic. But we weren't there for the salad, so do with that what you want.
The one complaint I might have would be the containers used to pack up my leftovers - by the time I got home, all of the delicious broth (and it was delicious!) had leaked out of the hinged plastic box (fortunately, the box was inside a bag which kept the liquid from ending up all over the back of my car). I would submit that those boxes are more appropriate for salad - perhaps, for a dish with broth or lots of sauce, something like quart deli container would be a better option.
Also, it should be noted that, as is becoming more common, there is a 4% surcharge for using a credit card.
Overall, though, for a delicious meal, I would highly recommend Peppinos, and I'll definitely go back when I'm in the area. I'd just bring my own container for...
Read moreRestaurant did not appear overly busy when we came in. Group that arrived the same time as us got seated at the next table. They were waited on almost immediately. We had to wait about 10-15 mins before our waitress even acknowledged us. They got their food, we still waited. They were packing their doggie bags and we still hadn't gotten our food. Waitress only stopped by once to give us an update and did apologize. Finally got sick of waiting and walked out. Can't rate the food because we never got any. Sure smelled good. I'm a reasonable guy. Had someone come over and told us the situation (my guess is the waitress never put the order in) and maybe offered some type of compensation like a free dessert or a discounted price. I would not be writing this. But no one did. Do they have a manager overseeing the wait staff and the overall operation? Customer service is huge to me and I can overlook mistakes, if someone is doing their best to make me happy. That should certainly be the attitude of a relatively new restaurant trying to find success. Wish I could...
Read moreThis is no way a real Italian restaurant. The chicken and rice soup the other day was extremely overbearing with oregano flavoring. I lived in the big city and stopped in Little Italy thousands of times. Real Italian cooks seldom and lightly use oregano because of it's strength of flavor. Veal Marsala had absolutely no wine flavor in the sauce and the veal was very over cooked. Shrimp Scampi was tasteless and needed a proper amount of sauteed onions and garlic with parsley to top it. Bread was decent, but as for the butter spread, was again very overwhelming with an odd oily taste. This restaurant is one that has no hints of a true Italian Cuisine. There's no return visit here. My 64 year-old fiance who's Sicilian and from Brooklyn clearly established that the meals we had wasn't in any way shape or form of Italian. Yes I would find a different place if I want to have an Italian...
