We have visited twice and will go back again! Our first experience was on a Wednesday evening. We were seated quickly and our drink and food order taken. The Blue Gill dinner was freshly deepfried and excellent, served with my choice of a baked potato and leafy green salad with garnishments and dressing. My husband ordered the open-faced tenderloin with the same sides. His steak was requested done medium, and had some grizzle and sinew; not a very good piece of meat. Our second experience was with a 4:45 reservation on a Friday night. We were seated promptly and our order taken quickly. The drinks came, but our dinners took longer to arrive. Several tables, who ordered after we did, received their meals before us. The Blue Gill was not as freshly cooked, and a little "dry", but my husband's sauteed scallops were tasty! We ordered a turtle torte and poppyseed torte to go. We ate the desserts that night at home and thought the turtle torte was very good, but the poppyseed torte was "gelatin-like" and ate only a couple bites of it. Nice friendly place in a beautiful, wooded setting near to Lake Michigan with a mostly...
Read moreTalk about a rollercoaster of a meal! Let's kick things off with the Old Fashioned. It was... well, just your basic Old Fashioned. Nothing to write home about. Then came the cheese curds, and oh boy, they were heavenly. I honestly should have just called it quits right there. But no, I was feeling ambitious and went for the broasted chicken. Looked amazing, but my taste buds were sorely disappointed. And those loaded mashed potatoes? Well, they decided 'loaded' means slapping a slice of cheese on top, tossing some bacon around, and throwing in a dollop of sour cream. A slice of cheese, really?
Now, I can't say enough about our friendly waitress and the kind staffâsuper nice and really made the atmosphere feel warm and welcoming. Plus, the prices? Incredibly reasonable, so thatâs a big win.
Meanwhile, my hubby was in steak heaven with his prime rib, living his best life while I was left pondering my life choices. His side? A broasted potato that had him giggling at the idea of 'broasted' anything. But hey, that steak was worth all the giggles. Maybe I just played my cards wrong, but at least someone at the...
Read moreA very nice local bar and eating establishment that has the feel of a cozy supper club tucked away in the middle of the Sheyboygan area woods on the very edge of Lake michigan. You can watch deer graze right outside the dining room windows, which is in a nice seperate room from the bar. Dining room seats a little under 60. Reservations are encouraged but not required. I would recommend phoning ahead unless you're going to show up at 4:00 when the dining room opens. The building has had many evolutions, and has been around since the 1940s. It's kept very clean and is in good condition. Prices are about average middle of the road. We recommend the prime rib special for Saturday night. A generous portion for about $23. Large cut was about $28. Sides: Seafood chowder was excellent, and side salad was a nice spring mix. The young man (Taylor) serving us was as nice as can be. Very polite and attentive. This really is a gem of a place off the beaten path. Get out of town and check this place out for some great food with a side of...
