What can I say about crab and jacks. The staff was extremely polite and very helpful. The atmosphere and surroundings were also very pleasing and the view of the wolf River was beautiful. I'm sure they make a very good hamburger although I've never had one at this establishment, I'm sure would be good. Unfortunately the I came there with a party of six and ordered all off the dinner menu from prime rib, shrimp dinners, and assorted steaks. The young lady that was our waitress with red hair was extremely nice and very helpful. Unfortunately she didn't have the training from the front of the house the teach her what needs to happenin a supper club full restaurant service. Follow through and follow up on orders and taking directions is a must from management and other staffers and especially the customers. I had worked out a birthday table arrangement to be placed at the front of the house per the suggestion of the owner. One because they were short staffed it would be easy to control customer flow and customer service with the lack of staffers they had on duty that evening I said great let's do that. When we got there we seen the table that was unset and a table for six sitting in front of the windows so we could overlook the Wolf River. I said well we're here why isn't this table set? That was then greeted and said oh we have you all set to go downstairs. I said the owner said we should stay upstairs to help out staffing issues and it's a better view seeing how the plants and bushes is overgrown the windows and it would be hard to see. She said yes but we have other orders so I decided to put you downstairs. This was not our wishes nor was it the owners. But we agreed and we went downstairs. She gave us the menus and said help yourselves to the salad bar with two different types of soup. The salad bar was just okay with minimal ingredients with only three kinds of dressing. The two soups was some kind of chowder left over from Friday and a cheesy broccoli that turned to paste because no one checked on it to add water or cream to keep it pliable. And it turned to paste. But moreover there were no cups in order to get soup I had to ask for a cups to be brought out. She says oh I'm so sorry I'll be right on it. On the salad better there was bread so everybody took bread. Got back to the table there's no butter and there was no butter on the salad bar so yet again I asked could you please bring butter She said oh certainly I'll be right back. After she took her orders for the birthday dinner. The orders came out in a timely manner. As we have been rafting all day people were hungry and thirsty. By the time one cocktail or drink was done they were ready to order another one and hungry for their meal that was coming out. Too much to our surprise the King cuts that came out of prime rib were overdone when ordered rare and swimming in a pool of some kind of juice. It certainly didn't look or taste like a Jew and it was way too salty. Other couples had shrimp and of course that's deep fried so what could go wrong with that? Other two couples head steaks and those are charbroiled so you know those were good and came out hot and after they cut it open it was perfectly done. So out of the six they had three good dinners and three prime rib dinners, what was supposed to be the star of the show was absolutely a failure. Even the cut of meat was a lesser grade, sinnewy and full of fat. The prime rib was way too salty and on the ends crunchy and firm. I can honestly say I've never had a piece of prime rib that was crunchy and overly done firm on the ends, when it was ordered rare. Although I can't recommend this place as a supper club for dinner. I do know that the beer was cold and I could see that the hamburgers were coming out and looked very good.So try this establishment at your own risk and shake of the dice. Hopefully management and front house management will sit down with staffers and teach them properly but what needs to go on in the front of the house of any supper club...
Read moreCrab n Jack's is the epitome of up Nort" kindness and hospitality. Sit back and read about this awesome place. They literally saved my wife's 60th birthday weekend. We've been coming up here most years for fall camping at Boulder Lake, second weekend in October. Site said it was still open FF, first come, first serve but the fine print said closed! All the way from Milwaukee in our RV and we were devastated. But lo and behold, Crab and Jack's saved our weekend. We went in there, just to figure out what we were going to do, after driving 200 miles only to find your campground closed. We started talking to our waitress and she said, "I think the owner might just let you stay on his property.I'll ask. " Brent came by in the middle of a swamped Friday night and graciously let us stay on his land and let us have a pristine spot to boot! So amazing. Brent went out of his way to accommodate us. While there, we had the fish fry, the haddock and the walleye and they were outstanding. The walleye serving was huge and the haddock cooked perfectly, excellent garlic mashed potatoes too! We also had appetizers on Sunday when we left, and the wings were some of the best we've had in a long time. It was like a buttermilk crunch batter, hot, tasty, and fresh, (I thought the fried pickles were cut a bit thick but still good) When people make fun of Wisconsin kindness and "Tell your folks I said Hi," kind of stuff about our state, this, THIS right cheer is why I LOVE our state and people like Brent Crabb. Oh, and for all you crabby pants out there complaining about service, I want to thank all of the staff here, for excellent service given how shorthanded they were, as so many places are. An unforgettable weekend thanks to...
Read moreThis was a tremendous and unnecessary disappointment. If you're hosting a wedding and it has l your resources tied up, close and tell customers that you're not serving tonight due to a private event. Unfortunately that's not what happened with us last night at this place. We were seated right away, and a young woman brought drinks, and then everything fell apart. Our server was inexperienced (which isn't her fault), completely untrained (which is the establishment's fault) and has some of the worst service industry instincts I've ever seen. It isn't her fault the kitchen was slow, they should have shut down. But forgetting multiple elements of our order multiple times, telling us she'd bring the thing she'd forgotten right away and then doing something else at the bar for ten minutes (also multiple times) is her fault. To be fair, she got no help from the multiple other servers who were mostly standing around. In the end, it took slightly over two hours start to finish, including multiple errors, food coming out in bits and pieces, ending with a mumbled half-assed apology from the server who truly had no idea what she was doing and hadn't been taught. The only saving element of it all was that the food, when we got it, was very good. Either this was a one-off resulting from the poor choice to maintain dinner service and host a wedding at the same time when it's clear that you can only sustain one or the other, or this place is very fortunate that there's not a ton of options up...
