If you just want to try unique, quality beers but don't have much of an appetite, this is your place. I ordered a flight of 6 beers (5 oz each) for $15 and liked all of them a lot. The beers are very interesting from cream ales to beers brewed in pig bones. There are also more traditional beers as well as a decent selection of IPAs. No complaints at all about the beer.
Don't come here hungry. No one in my party liked their meal. The menus are tiny with only 5 or so sandwiches, a couple appetizers, and burgers. Even so, they ran out of 3 items on the menu that many of my party were set on ordering. We started with the sausage and cheese platter which was ridiculously tiny for $12. Avoid this item for sure. For the entrée I was stuck with an onion garlic aioli burger which, like everything else, was served on a waffle. The aioli had no flavor whatsoever and the burger was overcooked (they didn't ask how i wanted it done). The other members in my party had varieties of sandwiches and burgers and everyone thought the food was subpar. Definitely skip the food here except for maybe an appetizer of chips.
The atmosphere is definitely unique. There is no service here; ordering is done at the bar and you take the drinks back yourself. The food is delivered but that's about it. The place is all one large room with a warehouse feel and lots of noise. The decoration is all over the place but i think that's the point. The workers are all younger with many piercings and tattoos which is indicative of the usually crowd here. It's not a very comfortable place for the family, but definitely interesting for a night out. They have live music some nights and it's 21...
Read moreIn an area of hit or miss breweries, I found Right Brain to be one of Traverse City’s hits. My wife and I visited TC the first week of May, hoping to do some hiking and visit local breweries. Unfortunately, the weather was awful, so we spent much of our time hopping from one taproom to the next (with a couple wineries thrown in).
Right Brain certainly lives up to its name — wildly creative. The taproom is large, spacious and full of vintage arcade games, making it even more colorful and loud. Perhaps it’s all the stimulation that makes it a fun space to be, and we weren’t surprised to see kids there playing games along with their parents.
The tap list was equally creative and almost overwhelming to take in, with a variety of styles running the gamut across four TV screens. Flight boards of six 6oz pours run $19. My wife and I got a flight each. Standouts included Social Probation Hazy, Spinal Crusher Double IPA, Cherry Bomb Cherry Cream Ale and Comma Sutra Imperial Cream Ale.
If ever in Traverse City again, Right Brain is one brewery I’d be eager to visit again and would...
Read moreMy friends and I came here for the Pig Porter release. My friend had it before and said it was complex with a slight smoke. My opinion of it was total smokiness! If you like a Smokey scotch then this beer is for you otherwise it should be a hard pass.
The other beers in my way over-priced flight were average to good but nothing I would return for. What kept them from the average rating was the excellent staff. Friendliness, conversation, humor, they all had it. Tie that in with a great all you can eat BBQ for a reasonable price from Bubba's BBQ it made for an enjoyable afternoon.
High/low top seating inside, Covered high/low top and picnic bench seating outside. High ceilings inside with lots of room between tables. Free Wi-Fi. Bathrooms were a little rough. Side lot and street parking.
I would say give it a try because everyone's beer buds are different and the staff is great. I probably wouldn't return due to the fight and up charge prices and the lackluster beer selection with many other brewery...
