My mom and I went here for lunch and to meet her Badgeret classmates from Tucson high. We were all seated together in a back room so it was okay if we got a little loud😘. There was a bunch of chips and salsa at intervals all the way down the long line of tables for everyone to enjoy while we waited. Everyone had a wonderful time and thoroughly enjoyed their food. Mom got the special a2 $10.95 (she went with two cheese enchiladas) and I got a chicken chcucurcho special $15.00. One of the ladies got a tanichopa salad and I just had to get a picture because it looked so delicious and she couldn't remember the name of it just that it started with a T. I will definitely be trying it next time. I did not get a picture of everyone's food there was just too many and people wanted to dig in as soon as the food arrived because it smells so good. One of the ladies got chili rellenos and two other ladies were so impressed with it that they got orders to go. I didn't get a picture of the cinnamon sweet tea but I thought it was very delicious and had two glasses. Our waitress Diavian was wonderful and took really good care of us. She was even nice enough to get a couple of group pictures for us. You can see how happy she is (in the last picture) holding the long line of receipts from...
Read moreBeen many years since I've eaten at Karichimaka. Grew up fairly close and mom & dad would bring us every couple of months or so. We were in Tucson visiting friends planning to visit San Xavier when a friend said they're still there.
So glad we stopped in. Twenty one years away from Tucson and real Mexican food is too long, especially since six of those have been in Texas. Well, this was one of the best homecomings I can think of.
The salsa was perfect. I could taste the tomato and the garlic was perfect to create a spicy fare that wasn't overpowering.
The Chile Relleno was fantastic. Light outer batter, chile was tender, and the cheese filling was not runny. The refried beans were PERFECT, way they are supposed to be, almost creamy. The rice was tasty too.
Wife got the chicken burrito. I had a bite. OMG, the chicken was fantastic too. We've lived in Texas too long where they haven't learned to properly season their meats (if it's seasoned at all). My wife was very pleased.
My mom got the carne seca enchilada. All she said was, "Oh gosh, that's the real stuff." She's lived here since 1956 and knows her Mexican food.
Dad's red chile burro was pretty good too. He was busy eating instead of talking.
No matter what, it's worth the drive to eat at...
Read moreChips and salsa brought to the table after being seated were very good. When I got my meal, chicken mole enchiladas, I cut one enchilada into smaller bites. After about 3 or 4 bites I felt something hard in my mouth. I pulled out 1 corn kernel sized piece of what looked like a small stone and 2 smaller "crumbles". I finished that enchilada very carefully. After showing them to the waiter, he said maybe it was a stone that was in the beans. I told him it came from the enchilada, that's the only thing I was chewing at that moment. He offered to take away my second enchilada and replace it with a newly made one but I had already looked inside it and it was okay. The rest of the meal was uneventful and not really that tasty. The mole was too sweet and lacked any depth of flavor. Rice and beans mediocre accompanied by a pile of bland shredded iceberg lettuce . Apparently the restaurant doesn't feel it needs to offer a comp or discount for foreign objects in meals. No discount was on my tab. I could have cracked a tooth or choked on that stone and things could have ended much worse. This was my first and last visit to this restaurant, where it seems customer safety is not...
