I have eaten burgers on both ends of route 66 in Oklahoma, from Waylan’s Ku Ku Burger in Miami, to the Tumbleweed Grill and Country Store in Texola and many genuine burger dives scattered in between, on the “Historic Mother Road.” For the stretch of Route 66 through Tulsa; I think Tulsa is blessed with the best…..And among them Freddie’s Hamburgers!
Freddie’s Hamburgers has been in business since 1954. It is currently tucked away on the south side of 11th St. just west of Mingo. It is a little hard to spot. Look for a white metal building trimmed in red.
This little family-owned restaurant is definitely the friendliest burger dive in Tulsa. When you give your name for your order, you become part of the family. Everyone from the fantastic cooks to the energetic, attentive servers work to make this clean little dive an enjoyable experience.
Freddie’s has something I have not seen on any other Mom and Pop burger dive’s menus in Tulsa; a true Char Burger cooked over an open flame! That is what got me in the door. Get comfortable sit back and enjoy the aroma of that rich one third pound burger searing on the open flame, cooked to order. You can almost taste it as it cooks, and then it arrives at your table dressed for the occasion. Fully loaded with the proper condiments. It is delicious.
Freddie’s also may have the best fresh cut fries in Tulsa. They have been slicing and frying spuds long enough to understand the science and have perfected the art. I’m not sure what their secret is, but I suspect the oil is properly heated to near its auto ignition temperature, before the taters are allowed to take the plunge. The flash fried potato sticks come to the table screaming hot from the fryer. Fresh, moist on the inside and flawless crispness on the outside. You won’t leave any behind.
Freddie’s menu also has you covered with Shakes and Malts in flavors you have never thought of……

Read moreI tried calling in my order but their phone lines were busy. Waited 30 min and still phone line was busy so I drove up there to order my food. No big deal. I told the lady my order and waited about 15 min, again no big deal. Got my food and I was checking, I saw there was a chicken salad but I ordered a grilled chicken sandwich. Again no big deal. I go back and theres an older white lady on the window now, I tell her what happened and she automatically rolls her eyes at me. Yells back at the cooks to start a grilled chicken sandwich. Opens the window back up 1-2 min after and proceeds to tell me that they turned off the burners or grills (something like that) and they it would take longer than usual to make the sandwich I said no big deal I’ll wait. She gives me the sandwich 4 min after and I knew there was no way they could’ve finished making that sandwich that quick. I drove further up and inspected the sandwich to see it wasn’t even grilled, looked like they put the chicken in the microwave and heated it up that way. In some spots the chicken doesn’t even looked cooked. I’ve been here hundreds of times, even the location on 11th and Lewis before they closed and was never treated with...
Read moreSUMMARY: IF YOU ENJOY A SEASONED BURGER DO NOT COME TO THIS PLACE!
I had high hopes for this place due to the raving reviews. I went in for a char burger, fries, & milkshake. I usually don’t dine in unless I am with my partner so I got my order to go. There wasn’t much seating. Bar stools at the counter and a few tables. The person who took my order was very quick, dismissive and seemed agitated. She didn’t make me feel very welcome at all. Just a head’s up, they do charge a fee if you use a card. Anyway, I went right across the street to Boeing park to eat my food fresh. My burger was so juicy that my bottom bun was already soaked. It wasn’t a pleasant juicy at all. I took a bite and it was the most bland burger I had ever had in my life. No seasoning whatsoever, not even salt. Not even the condiments did this burger justice. The fries were flimsy and disgusting as well. The milkshake was just a milkshake. Can’t really mess up a milkshake. I’m glad I got to try this place but I will never return and not regret it at all. I seriously would’ve enjoyed Burger King a lot more...
