Mi pueblito bar & grill — Restaurant in Tuscaloosa

OK, this unique restaurant has great Mexican food and some very unique sushi options. Yes, you read that correctly, sushi in a Mexican restaurant. I couldn't be more excited about this combination, by far my two favorite food categories.

They start you off with free chips and salsa. The chips have been fresh and hot every time we've visited. The salsa is a standard tomato based salsa with a little kick to it. It's one of the better salsas I've gotten in a restaurant in recent memory.

The tacos have been fresh and delicious each time I've gotten them. I always get Al Pastor street tacos and these are very similar to the tacos I get from a food truck in El Paso, TX. (That's my golden standard for street tacos) The rice and beans are tasty and fresh as well.

Now for the sushi, it's up there with some of the better sushi restaurants I've visited. I definitely wasn't expecting it to be so good. They have unique rolls that include ingredients like, crawfish, hot cheetos, or jalapeños. Very unique combinations that, even while reading the menu, are kind of hard to imagine tasting good. But each one we've gotten so far has been amazing. Our current favorites are the "J13" "Don´t touch me, eat me" and the "J4" "Mi Pueblito VIP Roll". Both are absolutely delicious. The food here is not good compared to any other Mexican restaurants in Tuscaloosa county. The service is fast and friendly, but that’s the end of the positives. Something I really want to share are the prices. First, they add 10% as a service fee at least on Tuesdays (not sure if that is every other day too). Here are some menu comparisons:

3 shredded chicken tacos? $10.15 Jalapeños- $7.25 Vera Cruz - $6.75

2 chicken quesadillas with lettuce/sour cream: $17 Jalapeños: $10.25 Vera Cruz: (with rice!) $10.95

Side of rice: $7!! Jalapeños: $3.50 Vera Cruz: $2.50

If this isn’t enough to make you stay away or simply drive into Tuscaloosa then I hope you have a better experience than I have had.

The food is good, it’s not better than my favorite Mexican restaurant but I do give it a 7/10. I’ve only eaten inside once and the service was good as well. I usually get mine to go for lunch at work. The prices are reasonable. Long story short, the food was good but, we had bad service from our waitress and we showed it in our tip (small tip).
