Mark's Valley View — Restaurant in Tuscarora Township

I’ve passed by Mark's Valley View many times on my way to and from work. (Your Uncle Gerry has an hour and forty five minutes each way.) I honestly wasn’t even sure this place was still open as a motel or a restaurant. It looks run down and the front doesn’t face Rt. 6. However, a few weeks ago they came up on my facebook, so I figured I would give them a try.

I always want to really like little hole in the wall places like Mark’s, but I’m sorry to say, I can’t recommend this one. The place seems like they haven’t changed anything since the 80s. Which could be a good thing if it had a vintage look to it, however, it just looked OLD, even the silverware was very old and cheaply made.

I ordered the daily special which was a country fried steak for $9.90. Now I realize for $9.90 you can’t expect much out of a country fried steak. The only good thing I would say about it was the portion was big. I suspect that the steak was ground, formed, battered and frozen. Like chicken nuggets are. If the country gravy was made fresh it wasn’t seasoned at all and the coleslaw was over processed and kind of like baby food. Even the diet soda was a bit stale.

The redeeming factor is the staff was very friendly and the desserts looked pretty good although I didn’t attempt one.

In conclusion, I guess if you are on a budget and you want meals under ten dollars, this one was editable and hot. I’d rather spend the extra money for a much better meal.

Had stuffed chicken breast. It was their special for the day. It was so overdone and dry I could hardly cut it with my knife. The stuffing in the chicken breast was ok.
