The short- a good place for friendly service and good food.
Let me tell you, we have a family of rather picky eaters and not one of us complained about our food! That's a lot to be said about your typical diner food.
The nitty gritty details: We dined on a Saturday about 2pm (so not quite lunch, but too early for dinner. Which was a bummer because we just missed the Prime Rib dinner special by about 30 minutes!).
Between 5 of us we dined in and ordered a Bourbon BBQ Burger with loaded fries, 2 chicken tenders with fries, open face brisket sandwich with onion rings, and kids noodles (spaghetti on the menu, but we ordered it with butter and parmesan instead of sauce.)
The burger was good (our pickiest eater said it was delicious), the chicken fingers were cooked perfectly crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside, and the fries and onion rings had good taste and were even perfectly fried. If you order loaded fries (with cheese and bacon; we had them with cheese sauce instead of shredded cheddar and it was a good choice because it was so good.)
We did also order dessert and cinnamon rolls to go.
The service was friendly, which isn't always common around NEPA. Our waitress was patient with our questions and requests and if we had a concern it was addressed quickly and with kindness.
The cost of their meals to quality and portion is low cost but darn good food in our opinion. The food was good enough that we splurged on house made desserts and cinnamon rolls too.
So, for 5 meals, 2 desserts, and 5 cinnamon rolls our bill was just shy of $100 (not including tip).
The only downside to this place... its 2 hours away from home for us. So I doubt we'll get to...
Read moreWe're regulars at Bishops for breakfast and lunch. Anytime we have visitors we bring them here. Unfortunately, today's experience was disheartening. We went for breakfast, and I personally ordered one biscuit with gravy, which I've had many times before and they're usually very good. Today it tasted doughy, not fully cooked. The three of us each took a bite to make sure I wasn't crazy, and we all said it tasted doughy. I tried to get the waitresses attention a few times, but she didn't hear me. It was busy. When I finally got her attention, I asked if it could just be removed from the bill and the reason why. She didn't say a word. Just took the biscuit covered with gravy and left. She came back and said the owner has to remove it from the bill, he's the cook. Then the owner came out with half of a biscuit that had no gravy and said, "this is the top of the biscuit" and started pressing on it to show it was cooked. To which I said "sorry mine wasn't cooked. We all had a bite, and it didn't taste cooked." He never apologized, just said, "ok" and walked away. Not quite sure why he showed me half of a biscuit that wasn't served to me to prove a point. It's a biscuit. I wasn't asking for a comped meal. As many times as we've been there, I've never sent back food. I understand things happen. But we were done eating, and I didn't want to pay for something I didn't eat. It was unfortunate, but he lost regular customers. However, I doubt he'd care, to be willing to behave like that over what seems to be a half of a biscuit, since he showed me the "top" of my biscuit that was not served to...
Read moreI'm a delivery guy and go all over the place and get to sample a lot of stuff from a lot of places. I hadn't been here in a long time but my hometown is not that far north of there. I took my break here today for fish fry Friday cause I like to sit down at a table and enjoy my meal rather that eating in the truck. Attached is a photo of my meal. It was awesome. Very good! Good portions, lots of side dish choices. My server was a sweetheart too and that really is the cherry on top of a good dining experience. This is a great family restaurant. I do recommend them and I will definitely stop again while...
