Whistle Stop Deli & Catering — Restaurant in Unicoi

Second time here. Food varies between average to great. Waffle fries were cooked/heated up on the flat top which we could tell and we're very oily and not good. I ordered the BLT with green tomato for my meal. Wife ordered a cheeseburger. Fresh and tasty, bacon was very, very salty. Overall good. Food is served outside. You order outside and go inside to retrieve. Customer service was good, staff is very kind.

The desserts look amazing. Will try those next.

Aside from the food, my biggest disappointment was the garbage cans full, nearly overflowing onto the floor. Full of styrofoam. Everything comes in styrofoam, even the drinks. Box for the fries, box for a burger, box for my sandwich. I would think they could offer your food in paper wraps and cut the waste or ask if you're dining in to offer reusable cups and plates. This was sad to see for me as this region is becoming focused on sustainability with some of the most beautiful landscapes. Also the bathroom did not have hot water and soap dispensers failed to work. There was yet another small styrofoam container on the sink with what seemed like Dawn soap one could pour into your hands or dip your hands into.. strange I thought.

Overall I would go again as the area is limited in choices but would also try...

Fantastic experience. The food was incredible, the staff were so friendly and professional mannered which is unfortunately not so common anymore! The inside that i could see was very clean. I have a history in food service and know the common things to look for-and that kitchen looked great. Also, there's outside dining in a covered area and they even had managed to keep that area impeccable- bug free, kept clean, the trash wasn't swarming with bees and such. The food portions were huge and the quality was good. All in all, i took the time to write this because it was an impressive experience and i truly felt they deserved the brag. I would strongly encourage anyone to try this local deli- i had absolutely zero complaints. And yes, the desserts are as good...

Overrated! Will never be back! I've wanted to eat here for years and the few times I have been by it had been closed. I've always heard good things. Today I got to eat here for the first time today so I was pretty excited. It didn't take me long to be very disappointed.....the sandwiches were mediocre (it took 30 minutes to get the sandwiches) , waaaayyyyyy overpriced ($48.00 for only 4 sandwiches, no fries no sides, no anything else) my wrap was mostly lettuce, and the organization from where you order to the dining area is a poor, not very well thought of layout. I was highly unimpressed with it, and so was the rest...
