Mountain View Chalet — Restaurant in Union

So I had my baby shower here last weekend (10/05) and while things turned out to be beautiful, the feedback we have been getting from people has not been so great. Let me start with the food, the portions were much smaller than expected. We had come for a tasting before we booked our event and when we had the tasting the portions were big and tasty. For our baby shower I was surprised when my plate came and it was small and with just 3 pieces of potatoes. Also, this week I’ve gotten feedback from guests that some of their plates came cold. Secondly, we had gone with open bar which we had to pay for all adults even though not everyone drank. On the day of the event my husband noticed that the alcohol they had on the shelf was wrong (very very bottom shelf) and this was while the baby shower had already started. Then bartenders started to question guests and my husband about open bar being for 4+ hours and who is driving. I’ve been to many open bar events and this has never been a question not even as a guest or when I got married. We had transportation organized and if the bartender was concerned she should have brought it up to my husband and I privately, not question guests. Also, feedback from guests who did have some drinks was that their drinks had barely any alcohol and received attitude when they asked for more as if we were not paying for open bar (maybe the bartender thought she was paying for the drinks). Overall, this is what I’ve been getting this week as guests and my husband did not want to stress me out on the day of the baby shower. I’m giving 3 stars overall just because of how accommodating the owner was, however, the staff and service really cast a shadow over our entire event. We were part of a party so I cannot speak to the smaller groups just joining for dinner but I have never heard anything bad of this establishment. I believe the place was accommodating to our hosts request, allowing to decorate and bring in a cake. The food was decent. We were told by our host prior to arrival that since we had a separate room, that this would be a limited menu. The menu had zero pricing on it and was built to make you think you pick an app, salad, and entree. I asked the waiter and he said to "pick an app, salad, and entree". I also clarified with the waiter I would need a separate check for my wife and I and he said he thought this was all together but could look into it. He already had a tab running for our drinks so I assumed this would not be an issue. When they delivered one large check to the table and individual checks for everyone's drinks it things were finally put into perspective. The apps we $15 each, salads, $20 each, entrees $25-35 each. Had this been communicated we would have forgone at least one of these if not both. At the end of the night we had a $140 bill (as did many other couples of our party of 25 + kids). They did finally agree to split up the checks after all but the lack of communication made for this a very long (took 45 minutes to split the checks and deliver a bill) drawn out process.

We hosted our wedding ceremony and reception in the ballroom at Mountain View Chalet on 9/24/2022 and it far exceeded our expectations! We are still receiving compliments from our 62 guests about the outstanding experience! The cocktail hour was excellent and everyone especially enjoyed the shrimp cocktail, oysters, lamb chops, mozzarella and tomatoes, pigs in a blanket, etc! The pasta in vodka sauce was excellent and then came a fresh garden salad with a yummy dressing. For dinner, everyone was offered either prime rib, Chilean sea bass, vegetarian or a gluten free entree. The prime rib was prepared to each persons preference - rare, med rare, well. The potatoes and mixed vegetables that accompanied the dinner were also delicious. Many of our guests commented on the high level of service as everything was served timely and hot! The wedding cake and tray of cream puffs, carrot cake and cannoli’s on each table were delicious. The full service bar offered endless cocktails of choice. The breakfast for our 30 guests the next day in the same room was amazing … omelets to order with many choices of filling, the pancakes and French toast were the best I ever had - so light and fluffy!
