Great place to eat with good prices and an awesome atmosphere! Denunzio's is one of my favorite restaurants. The balance of food quality and price makes it a fantastic value. It's not a "fancy" restaurant - you don't need to dress up and it might not be be the most amazing food you've ever had (but it might). But the food is great with very consistent quality and excellent service. In particular, I've come to love the salads (awesome bread too), the pizza, the ravioli, and several other dishes. And with the bread, you get SOFT butter - because giving a customer cold butter to try to spread is insane! The butter is perfectly spreadable and it's unpackaged - so you don't have to open anything. My wife always gets good quality seafood here, which is a rarity in western Pennsylvania - although most Pittsburghers don't realize it. There are 3 Denunzio's restaurants and this one is, by far, my favorite location. It sits atop the Arnold Palmer Regional Airport in Latrobe, which is an idyllic country setting overlooking a picturesque local airfield supporting light commercial and general aviation traffic. While you eat, you'll get to look out the window at the runway that sits right in front of you and watch the occasional large Airbus passenger plane take off, as well as small Cessnas and similar private aircraft. The setting is accented by the rolling countryside of beautiful Westmoreland County. The parking is free and the walk to the terminal is very short. Denunzio's has a beautiful atmosphere with a warm interior design - beautiful flowers, music, and soft natural lighting. There's a great 360-degree bar, good wine selection (including some local), and it's kid-friendly. This is one of those old-school hidden gems that are often over-looked because of its off-the-beaten-path location since it's not visible from route 30 and most people simply don't think of it unless they're flying out of the seldom-used airport. What that means for local diners is that you almost never have to wait for a table. There's also some outdoor seating if you want to get a little closer to the airport activity. One caution though... the outdoor seating tends to be fairly windy. Bottom line... Denunzio's is a destination in...
Read moreWe really wanted to like this place. It was clean and our server was very friendly. The menu seemed to have several interesting options. Started with Artichokes Romano. They were tasty, but were deep fried but came (as mentioned in the menu) with a white wine sauce. Unfortunately the sauce made them kind of soggy. Would be better without the sauce or if you could just dip them in it. The calamari were fine. Not amazing but tasty enough and served with a good tomato sauce.
My problem was with the main dish. I ordered the diver scallops with risotto. The scallops were good. There were about 7 or 8 on the plate and a reasonable size, and not overcooked. The problem was the risotto. I appreciate an al dente risotto but this was very undercooked. To the point where the rice was actually crunchy and sitting in a puddle of watery liquid. It obviosuly was not cooked long enough for the rice to absorb the liquid. In addition, the menu mentioned pesto and I expected a small amount of pesto on the scallop or perhaps topping the risotto, but it came witha lot of watery pesto surrounding the risotto around half of the plate. I really wasn't sure what it was for, maybe dipping the scallop in? In the end, we ate the scallops and left the risotto as it was getting stuck in my teeth and was not pleasant to eat. When our server came to collect the plates and wasn't sure if I was done, I explained why I didn't eat most of the dish. She apologized but that was it. No offer of bringing something else (though it was too late for that really, and I wouldn’t have taken her up on it at that point). We expected that she would have spoken to the manager or chef and perhaps comped it or done something to make up for it. So our thoughts were either that she hadn't spoken to management about the quality of the dish or that she had but they didn't feel the need to do anything about it. Perhaps if she had checked with us earlier they could have brought something else, but at that point my husband was done and we were ready to leave. If I lived nearby I might try again and order something different but we live several...
Read moreHad NYE dinner there with 5 other friends. Started with a cocktail at the Sinatra Bar. Ordered a Manhattan. What I got was not a Manhattan. The management only had two bartenders on staff who were also responsible for serving food. They were tremendously stressed. One was doing the best she could...the other had given up on being pleasant. Inexpensive drinks, poorly made.
The special menu was a nice selection that included an appetizer table. The appetizer table was a bit of a disaster. The main issue was they were trying to be cheap and understock it. Also, the appetizer selections didn't match the menu guarantee.
As all meals included the appetizer table, we helped ourselves. Howevere were chastised by the waiter for not ordering first.
The waiter was extremely rushed. Again, the place seemed under staffed. Our waiter rushed us and did not write anything down. Naturally, she made a few mistakes with the order.
My 12 ounce NY Strip Steak was a poor cut of meat. It was done properly and to order. The sides were mass-produced and unimpressive by any measure. My girlfriend's Prime Rib had great flavor, but parts were so underdone you could consider it to have not been cooked at all.
The dessert was acceptable (some of it was a bit soggy from being prepped.) We attempted to order coffee but were ignored and were presented with our checks.
The staff we interacted with made us feel like our presence was an inconvenience. Most of the problems are probably due to poor staffing and other choices made by the management. Could only justify leaving an 18% tip (instead of 25%).
I might try it again on a non holiday. It's a nice venue but you have to staff more people, provide higher quality food, and if your gonna call it Sinatra Bar you have to be able to make traditional cocktails. Good bar tenders should be able to do it in your...
