J & J Fish — Restaurant in University Park

I wasted $40 on unseasoned food that was cooked in old grease. I ordered a side of pickles and was given fried pickles. Typically, I like fried pickles, but the breading was not seasoned and it taste like pickles dipped in old oil. My chicken gizzards were terrible. The breading was doughy and some of the gizzards were undercooked. Absolutely no seasoning on the french fries. My daughter said her chicken taste like fish and my 4 year old granddaughter took one bite of her fish and was done. The worst food I have ever been served from a restaurant. I called and advised that they change their grease and was told that they changed the grease "yesterday." YESTERDAY???? IT'S 5 O'CLOCK TODAY. The grease should be changed everyday. I assume you're frying your chicken in the same grease as you fry the fish. You better stop before someone with a fish allergy eats that fishy tasting chicken. You may kill someone with a fish allergy by frying foods in the same grease as fish. The manager was nice and told me the next time I come back, he will make it right. Went there 3 times, 1st time I ordered catfish (stakes) bone in, it was great fresh seasoned well nice portions. 2nd time I went I ordered catfish steaks again they were fresh and seasoned BUT…,,they were cut so thin it was like the width of 2 slices of cheese. My husband was disappointed so I started to just cross them off my list of restaurants, but I decided to give them another chance and I also called and explained my dilemma about the thin catfish stakes for almost 20 dollars. The JJ phone operator told me we got better pieces this time. because last month it caused a problem in my household I still ended up cooking something. Too be on the safe side maybe I’ll try the fillets. I ordered the catfish fillets and it’s nothing but tilapia. If I wanted tilapia I would have ordered Tilapia. They are selling Tilapia at Catfish prices. I will not be going there again. Let me choose what I want to eat don’t sell me something under false pretenses. There should be a law against that. This was my first time placing an order and having food from this JJ's.

Placing the order was easy. We ordered Catfish tails, Fried Oysters, and Fried Wings. Each order comes with a side of coleslaw, two slices of white bread and french fries. Plenty of condiments--mild, hot sauces, tarter and seafood sauce and a ton of napkins.

The staff was nice and cordial. Great appreciation for that. A big celebration that the store was clean and comfortable.

The food was great. Everything was cooked well. It was fresh. Having fresh wings is extremely important to me. The bones were not dark. That won me over! Personally, I would like to have my fries and bread on the side, rather than having them squashed.

Overall, the Catfish tails and Fried Oysters received a thumbs up also. I'm looking forward to placing an order soon from this establishment. Keep up...
