Feeling really disappointed as I write this, but I feel that it must be said. This was our 5th or 6th time eating at Home Town in the last few months. We have been there when it's been extremely busy, and we've been there when it's been slower. We've always had relatively good food and service until today. 3 of us had breakfast platters (avocado toast and potatoes for me, the Grandma breakfast for my friend, and cream chipped beef with toast, potatoes, sausage, and eggs for my partner). My toast was burnt to heck, but the poached eggs were fine. Potatoes had okay flavor, but were cold. I ate them anyway. My partner sent his food back because the eggs were way overdone, the cream chipped beef looked like days-old Elmer's glue (he held it upside down and it wouldn't even come out of the bowl), and the potatoes were totally cold. My friend ate her potatoes but said they were super cold, and she couldn't even finish one slice (of 4) of french toast because it was not only cold, but seemed stale to all of us. We felt that when we asked for the food to be replaced, we did it in a kind way. We told the waitress we knew it was not her fault (and they were busy). She had told us twice that the kitchen was backed up. In no way did we blame her. But when we went back to leave the tip on the table, we overheard her complaining to another waitress about us sending the food back. Our breakfast, between the 3 of us, was almost $50. We were never rude to her, we explained that we even kept/ate portions that we didn't think were great. And she had the nerve to publicly complain about the customers? Given that we all work in public-facing roles, we were delicate and sensitive about how we said we were unhappy with the food. Shame on her for thinking and SAYING that the bad food was OUR problem. Even worse? We told the cashier that we weren't happy with our meals. And she rolled her eyes and kind of giggled and said, "Oh okay, I'll make sure the cooks hear about it."
We drove over 20 mins each way for breakfast every time we at here. We won't be worrying about doing that again. Oh, and by the way: we still left a more than fair tip for the waitress who thought WE were...
Read moreREVISED: I had a terrible experience tonight that unfortunately really warranted a revised review. I ordered the black diamond steak, medium with grilled shrimp. I got a side salad because they were out of the seafood bisque which is fabulous. After waiting about a half hour, in a near empty restaurant, we received our food. Steak was well-done. The server said, "Sorry for the wait, it was because of the steak." She didn't check on us for awhile, but when she did finally come back I told her I didn't get my salad or the bread that comes with the meal, but that was fine, that I'd take the cup of chicken noodle to go. She said, "Oh no, I did see a salad LAYING in the back." Now mind you, I paid the extra $2.99 for the salad because they didn't have the soup I like. The fact that the salad was laying in the back to me was very unappetizing. Especially since at that point it was probably back there for 40 minutes or so. Now, the server did offer another steak to be made, but seriously, I waited so long for it in the first place, I wasn't in the mood to wait longer. I told the person at the front where you pay, and she offered a sorry. I was not expecting a free meal, but something would have been nice. I did just pay $24.99 for something that was cooked wrong and a salad that was laying around the kitchen for who knows how long... ew.
I will continue to say that breakfast is amazing!
ORIGINAL REVIEW: Great coffee and Bloody Marys with Bacon are a deal. Highly recommend. Haven't had a bad breakfast yet. Lunch is hit or miss though. I got the chicken quesadilla once and it had what tasted like Italian seasoned chicken in it. It just didn't mix well with the quesadilla fillings and toppings. Also had chicken parm, and that was fabulous, but the side of pasta wasn't. Too watery of a sauce. Seafood chowder...
Read moreThis bar and grill has some of the strangest, most frustrating rules that make you never want to return. Want a shot with your beer? Not happening. Didn’t finish your last drink? No refill for you. And for some reason, they print a separate receipt for every single item you order—talk about a waste of time and paper.
Service is a joke. The bartenders love to chat but not actually work. Wing Wednesday used to be worth coming for, but not anymore—regulars get all the flats while everyone else gets stuck with nothing but drums, no matter what you ask for. Then there’s Trish (pretty sure that’s her name), a senior bartender with a terrible attitude who clearly doesn’t want to be there. I’ve even caught her lying about regulars to the owners. If she’s behind the bar, I walk right out.
Food is hit or miss, and if it’s Burger Night, just go to Wendy’s—you’ll get a better burger there. Oh, and if you’re hoping for a relaxing meal, good luck. They seat kids in the bar area, and since most parents don’t bother parenting, you’ll be treated to screaming kids running wild while you eat.
The only bright spot in this place is Rosie—one of the few employees who actually works hard. She deserves better.
And if they decide to randomly close early, tough luck. Even if the place is full, they’ll rudely kick you out, and you won’t even be able to grab a six-pack to go. After being burned by this place too many times, I’m done—and I’ll make sure everyone I know hears exactly why they should...
